Update #3, Wednesday, 06/30/10

As of yesterday evening/today, 06/30/10 3pm:We have been in email correspondence with our Marion County District 3 City Councillor, Ryan Vaughn, regarding the SIDEWALK portion of this stretch of 52nd St. (b/t the Monon Trail & College Ave.) as it is the part of our petition which still remains unresolved.  Ryan has confirmed that "Sidewalks will mostly be replaced but poles not relocated".  We are hopeful that they are going to find an acceptable way to resolve this code-compliant sidewalk problem.  The issues for the city stem from how to deal with the riddle of ELECTRICAL/LIGHT POLES that are in the middle of the current old non-code complaint sidewalks & the expense/unplanned funds to move them if there is no more city right-of-way (forcing the city & IPL to purchase land from surrounding properties).  We are waiting to find out if burying the electrical lines is even an option.  Now the question still remains to be known about how much space...

Update #2 06/28/2010

Good Morning,This is Update #2 for the ongoing repaving project of 52nd Street....We have been receiving an overwhelming positive response from fellow members of this great community & by the incredible Cyclist Advocacy groups in Indianapolis!  Our goal has been clear: we want bike lanes, code compliant sidewalks, and proper street signage to encourage proper usage.  We also want to encourage transparency in the process.  Here are the facts: DPW claims that the plans we (and another neighbor) were shown on site, as the work was already in progress, "were not the final plans" despite our personal contact with a project inspector, who confirmed to us that it was in fact the "final and only drawings" they had received.  Today our Marion County District 3 Councillor, Ryan Vaughn, talked to DPW and has confirmed directly with us that 52nd Street will now have bike lanes going both directions (as exists east of the Monon...
