Without the knowledge or consent of any parents or students, Big Hollow Administration, namely April Miller, according to all board members present at the Meet the Board meeting held Monday night September 14th. April Miller decided to implement an enforced silent reading program in the place of recess for our children. This was done and put in place without any input from the parents and taxpayers of the community. We, as caring and concerned parents of children in the Middle School grades 7 and 8 do not agree with this policy and feel that our children's time and best interests would be better served either reinstating recess for physical exercise, or by adding a few minutes on to each class instead of silent time. This is not a society of strict enforcement of reading, but is a public school and as such needs to be accountable to the public and especially to the parents who's children are being treated as if they were in boot camp. It is the sincere wish of this petition to bring into the awareness of the Big Hollow administration our extreme disapproval of this strict and uncalled for policy.
