Name: Joan Smith on Jan 3, 2003State: MICountry: USComments: I agree, that it would be more humane to allow greater space for the fish to swim and I don't see it being an excessive expense or trouble to do this. Please reconsider your treatment of the fish and by doing so your will be taking your customers into consideration as well as improving the conditions of your fish.Flag

As much as I enjoy mine I would recommend a betta for anyone livng alone, especially. Lets get larger spaces for them for them. A Betta Lover, Francis EllisFlag

It is just like the people running the circus. They keep these poor large animals shackeled up and in cages tht they can barley turn around. Animals deserve quality life, not being kept in little jail cells. They are not criminals, they don't deserve this!!!!!Flag

Name: Jennifer Atala on May 9, 2003State: DCCountry: USComments: As far as those whose argument is that they lived in puddles, these puddles generally contain a few gallons of water. The care of these fish is in our hands, abusing them isn't anything to be proud of. If you treat them right, they will love you.Flag

Name: Caroline Figueroa on Aug 11, 2003State: MACountry: USComments: I just bought a betta fish after having them all my life for my son and I got a 1.5 gallon tank just because all the bettas in the store looked very unhappy. I wanted to buy them all just because the conditions they were in. Very small jars don't make them more attractive, it made me feel sorry for them. Our betta (Angle) seems much more happier then when we bought him. On another note, I was told to feed him one pellet a day but surely I found out it was as much as he can eat in a couple of mins. twice daily!!! Not just once a day. Fish sellers should know each fish and how to take care of them. Not just Sell them!!!Flag

Name: Carrie Teske on Aug 18, 2003State: NMCountry: USComments: These fish shouldn't be kept in such small areas and they shouldn't be allowed to be sold by any store (i.e. Walmart & other such stores, book stores, flower shops etc.), but ONLY by reputable pet stores & then should not be keep in such small containers nor sold in these decorative type vase set-ups. I strongly believe their price should be higher (at least 6 to 10 dollars). This would discourage most of the undesirable apathetic & uncaring people from buying them. They are just TOO easy to purchase because they do not require a filtration system. Raising the price is one solution to this problem. Money talks, & most of these "undesirable" people wouldn't consider spending that much money on a fish because then it would be to costly for them. I wonder how many of these poor little fish are bought just to watch them fight. There are so many people that just don't care about the animal's welfare. Lastly, stores should educate their people well on the care of these fish. These are living creatures and shouldn't be treated so carelessly.Flag

Theyre very happy, always chasing each other around playing and nipping one another fins. They eat off the root system which is GREAT! Sometimes they get sleepy and float on their side montionless, so cute, 2 of them have been sleeping like that for 2 WEEKS NOW! such a sleepy head! hes starting to smell though, i think a bath in chlorox is needed for him and his friendsFlag

The other sad thing about this is that people get the idea it's ok to keep these fish in small conainers and unsanitary/cold conditions.Flag

Name: Febe Claudio on Jan 6, 2004State:Country:Comments: If you think they are inhumane to the fish you ought to see the way they treat their employees. My granddaughter works for Meijer & she is always talking about how the third shift employees get yelled at when they don't get all of their cleaning done. While first and second shift do nothing! To top it all off her lead cashier won't lift one lazy finger to do anything including helping guests on U-Scan. Sorry about that I got off task. The team members they have covering the fish and other animals are barely qualified to take care of themselves let alone other living creatures.I don't know how many times I've been in a Meijer store a saw the fish floating around in dirty water with dead fish all around them.Nobody in their right mind is going to want to buy them because they will end uo dying within a week anyways. You can't help but feel sorry for the poor creatures.THey should've just left them where they were if they weren't going to take care of them right.Oh before I forget it's only the male bettas that are in the little glass vases. The females are in the regular tanks with the other fish!Flag
