Name: Isaac Amadasun on Dec 22, 2010Comments: This is indeed a shameful act and should be resisted by all right thinking people who believe in fairness, equality and social justice. The thing of Honour to do is to return this Mask to the people of Benin, who had hitherto before the expedition had ruled and lived peacefully amongst themselves, the Benin's had been a nation and empire of their own and if not for this punitive expedition we may not have been in this present day Nigeria with greedy leaders! This action ll remind us of our painsFlag

Name: Anthony Okoluko on Dec 22, 2010Comments: I here by object to the sale (via Auction) of this, fraudulently acquired, priceless legacy of a people and civilisation. May I recommend that the British Government should take possession of the Mask of Idia, the first Queen Mother of the Bini Kingdom. May I also recommend this property eventually be returned to the Oba of Benin (from who's family and people it was forcibly acquired). The the handling for sale of this stolen property, acquired through aggressive war on the Bini people, that did no wrong to the British invading Army in 1897, is tantamount to BLOOD MONEY transaction facilitated by Sotheby's of London.Flag

That most of the Nigerian missing artefacts are in the hands of some unscruplous families in the United Kingdom is common knowledge but this blatant crime should not be allowed to happen.Flag

Nigerians should not accept any more the display of double standard by most of the European nations.Flag

Name: Bayo Osarogie on Dec 22, 2010Comments: The mask as well as other Benin artifacts in British museum and other western museums should be returned asap. Anybody in position of something he has not legally acquired is commiting a crime. It is absolutely non-negotiable. That's the least they can do to right at least a tiny fraction of all those past heineous atrocities. Otherwise all those noise they are making about Mugabe is only because some white people have suffered injustice in Zimbabwe. They would be demonstrating once again that justice for Africans has never been on their agenda.Flag

How comes art stolen by the Nazis during WW11 has been returned, and this one has still been held for all these centuries. Is it one rule for Africa, another for the rest of the world?Flag
