Name: Wayne Windley on Jun 12, 2007Comments: Keep it as is, it is a shame to see kids today have to be mandated on what to wear, but because the parents won't do it we must protect the ones that have respect for themselves and dress accordingly. Any lessening of the policy only opens the door for interperation which leads to lack of control.Flag

Name: Lydie Jennings on Jun 12, 2007Comments: The old policy is a proven policy that puts all children on a level playing field to learn without distractions. Why would our board waste time going back to address an issue that has already been resolved when we have other issues that could be addressed to enhance and improve our educational offerings within Beaufort CountyFlag

Name: Archie Jennings on Jun 12, 2007Comments: The Education Foundation supported the efforts of the board to implement a uniform policy by using funds to purchase inventory to meet the needs of the student population. With the new changes, you are hurting our ability to offer additional opportunities programs to our students because thousands of dollars from the foundation is now invested in uniform inventory that meets the requirements of the old policy. We need to go back to the uniform policy that worked.Flag

Name: Heather Perry on Jun 12, 2007Comments: I support the uniform policy as it was before the changes were made. I was very pleased with the policy and thought it brought a continuity to the schools and classrooms that was not present before the uniform policy was in affect. It is interesting to me that in the past two years I have seen parents who were neutral about the policy , but never someone who was against the policy. Overwhelmingly people have been in favor of the policy.Flag

Name: Lisa Wilkins on Jun 12, 2007Comments: I would like maybe at least one feminine color for my five year old daughter but I do NOT support students being allowed to wear any color. There should be color restrictions. I also think there should be restriction on shoes. I do not think flip flops should be allowed. I support the uniform policy and think that it is effective and looked upon with favor by the rest of the community as well as other districts. Thanks. LSWILKINSFlag

Name: Beth Wilder on Jun 12, 2007Comments: If you MUST change the policy, please leave the shirt colors the same and don't add plaids or stripes, and no jeans. Let's try to meet in the middle. Don't alienate the parents who do so much to support the schools.Flag

Name: Susan D Nichols on Jun 12, 2007Comments: I for one like the dress code to provide some uniformity to the school. i do wish that students could wear jeans as they are more durable for some. In any case I have heard they would be too baggy but in my opinion you can make anything baggy. Enforce the belts and it will cut down on this as well. I have 2 children in the school system and find that uniforms cuts down on arguing in the morning as to what to wear but it would make it easier at times to be able to wear jeans as part of the unifrom. THANKS.Flag

Name: Leland Heath III on Jun 13, 2007Comments: You need to leave it as is for a sufficient time period to allow parents and students to adjust. It is a great policy and needs to be given a chance. There is no need to continue "tweaking" it. That only leads to confusion.Flag

Name: Jonathan Boyd on Jun 14, 2007Comments: I agree with this petition and in any kind of situation like this the board needs to examine the information themselves and not just trust the opinion of one person who was opposed to uniforms to start off with. I think there needs to be a better system of checks and balances on situations as delicate as this and have more than one person heading up responses. There needs to be committe with both sides represented--pro and con--to look over responses and come to a better conclusion.Flag

Name: Robin Skillen on Jun 14, 2007Comments: The eixisting school uniform policy is excellent and does not require changes. A real positive is the ban on labels. Statistics show that children who adhere to a school unifrom policy have better conduct, self-esteem, and as a reslut highger test scores.Flag
