We the undersigned citizens and taxpayers of Beaufort County, concerned about the impact on our taxes of proposed major borrowing to build a new jail in the county, do PETITION and DEMAND that the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners respect the fundamental principles of democracy and hold a democratic referendum of the voters of Beaufort County before committing to borrow money to build such jail.
