Bring Back the Bullets

To: Washington Wizards Owners and Front Office We, the fans of the Washington Wizards, are calling upon Mr. Abe Pollin and the minority owners to rename the team. Washington Wizards was created because the thought was that the word Bullets carried violent overtones, which Mr. Pollin wanted to repudiate, especially since Washington was experiencing some of the highest homicide rates in the country at the time. We all applaud the efforts of Mr. Pollin to eliminate crime, but find that what was done by the franchise by the building of Verizon Center and transforming N.W. from the corrupt and violent blocks that used to exist to the emerging businesses that now stand, was a far more substantial endeavor to curb violence. We the fans feel that the current name does not represent our fanbase, our team history or our past heroes, and as a result, lacks in a connection to the fans of tomorrow and more importantly those of the past. The most successful franchises have perhaps tweeked but never completley changed the names they began with . This is exemplified by fanbases of the Lakers, Celtics, 76ers, and the Bulls who took over the city we initially left from. Thus, we are calling upon the owners and the front office of the Wizards to realize that the team is evolving and about to embark on an exciting new time. We believe that a change back to the Bullets or even Capitols would be more advantageous to the team for marketing, as well as to the local fans to wrap their arms around. We suggest the use of: Washington Bullets or Washington Capitols so as to embrace the Championship and Hall of Fame history of our great basketball team. Sincerely, The Undersigned
