Name: Jeremy Fagan on May 14, 2010Comments: The height of arrogance from BBC Web Designers, going for form over function. Low graphics was perfect for mobile devices - the mobile version is suitable for nursery schools only. Switch it back on - until then, I'm moving across to the Guardian.Flag

Name: Rhys Turner on May 14, 2010Comments: I'm all in favour of change, but change for the better please. What the BBC have done here is take away something good (the low graphics version of the site) and replace it with something bad (the mobile version) that I actively chose not to use because it was so bad! Either give us a usable alternative or give us back the Low Graphics version until a usable alternative is available.Flag

Name: Marina Bloj on May 14, 2010Comments: The low graphics version provided an excellent news summary. It worked very well on mobiles and with satellite links from remote places. It also served well my need to do a quick daily skim of the news at home (even when using a high bandwidth connection). Please reconsider and re-instate the low graphics version.Flag

Name: Anthony Ellis on May 14, 2010Comments: This site was the best thing about the BBC news website, how am I going to check the election results, or sporting results when I'm on the move. The mobile site is awful and the BBC news app is no more than a glorified web link! Bring it back!Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 14, 2010Comments: The BBC news low graphics website was simply the best and most user-friendly news site on the internet. It had no distractions, no unnecessary graphics, tickers or gimmicks. With simple navigation, fast loading time and its wonderfully simple layout, this site could render on even the simplest of browsers, while also being the preferred version by thounsands of high-end users. The BBC news low graphics was beautiful and an incredibly useful service; its removal came as a shock to many people and marks a sad day in the history of the BBC. Please bring it back. I'm happy to help if you need technical advice.Flag

Name: Lee Smart on May 14, 2010Comments: Please reinstate the low-graphics version of the BBC News website - it was LINEAR and simple to follow. I have a receptive disorder that means I struggle to cope with web pages that are laid out in columns and have different areas on screen with images and text of different sizes. The low-graphics version gave me a way to access news. The "mobile" version is still broken up with colour and fonts. This change has been taken away and is discriminating against those of us with receptive disorders.Flag

Name: William Kidd on May 14, 2010Comments: Many in the less-well connected parts of this planet have come to depend on the text version of the bbc for its content (unavailable locally) and trustwothiness, besides the more rapid and economical download, and the much easier to view/sort through/access to the CONTENT (i.e the whole point of visiting the BBC news site). The BBC is taking a large step backwards in its global presence in removing this resource. It is also insulting how this time this was done without any announcement - shameful behavoiur. And - the mobe version is NOT an adequate replacement.Flag

Name: Heymat Ozman on May 15, 2010Comments: Some of us are still too poor to use a broadband connection and are restricted to dial-up. The mobile version is too cluttered and too hard to read. Please bring back the low-graphics version even if you string a banner ad across the top, I would not mind that. I realize that the BBC needs to make some money back.Flag

Name: Aliustair Hannah on May 17, 2010Comments: This was NOT signposted on the low graphics page so there was no opportunity for low-graphics users like myself to comment before the plug was pulled. The BBC's reasoning is defective; the mobile site has less information but with far too much superfluous graphics "padding". To add insult to injury, they then argue that they have forthcoming plans to help dyslexics, ADHD suffers and others who have problems with text. I'm glad that this is forthcoming but I don't *have* a problem with text: I WANT text only!! The argument that 2% usage of the low graphics site is too low and then slavishly pander to the tiny IPhone market is also bizarre.Flag

Name: Tony Mossop on May 17, 2010Comments: It is immensely important to have a 'lightweight' form of the news website, and the 'mobile' version is frankly a very poor replacement. I do wish decision makers in charge of web sites would be more aware that lean, efficient and simple design is a powerful feature (cf. google crushing the initial search leader, alta-vista, was strongly related to the fact that google has a simple, lean interface, whereas alta-vista's bosses pushed their interface towards a graphics heavy, slow and eventually irritating interface).Flag

Name: Rikki Cate on May 18, 2010Comments: I have long been a loyal user of the low graphics version of BBC news and was deeply disappointed to find it had been switched off. I am so upset by this that I have started actively searching for an acceptable alternative site. There seems to be a trend these days to lard web sites down with as much pointless whizz bang special effects gadgetry as possible, with no regard whatsoever (see BBC's dismissive 2% comment) for those of us who are stuck with low-bandwidth connections through no choice of our own. Because I'm on dial-up I'm made to feel like a smoker, a star-wearing second-class citizen prohibited from sharing in most of what the Internet has to offer. I find the BBC's attitude arrogant and unhelpful and no, I'm not prepared to put up with the mobile alternative either.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 20, 2010Comments: As a regular long-distance commuter I always dip into the low graphics version when travelling without a newspaper. As others have mentioned, the mobile version contains a very scant overview of the day's stories and the loss of the 2 line summary means I am far less likely to browse aroud the site.
