The Inn at Freshford is calling on Bath & North East District Council (BANES) to produce new guidelines to better protect the city’s historic public houses from closure and developers – ensuring they can only close and be redeveloped for housing or offices if they are no longer used by the community.
We’ve been serving the local community since the 16th century, but in recent years we’ve seen many of our fellow local Inns call last orders at the bar for the final time.
In light of the recent closure of The Packhorse Inn in the neighbouring village of South Stoke, we want BANES to publically and effectively stand-by the city's historic pubs.
Please sign our petition to help safeguard Bath’s historic pubs and business growth in the city and surrounding area:
I was just looking at the comments people have been leaving and it really hits home how many memories are wrapped up in these old buildings. It feels like every time I open my laptop there is another story about a local spot disappearing and honestly it is getting harder to stay quiet about it while we wait for the council to actually pay attention to what we need.

I honestly cannot believe how fast this has all picked up speed lately because it feels like just yesterday I was worrying that nobody else cared about these old buildings enough to notice them disappearing. The energy here is honestly wild and it makes me feel like maybe they actually have to listen to us now if we keep pushing for these new rules.

Too many places closing down lately. These pubs are the heart of our villages. Stop the developers before everything just becomes another flat complex.

So sad to see the packhorse go. We need to save the ones we have left. Bath just wont be the same without our historic local pubs.

I grew up going to these pubs. It would be a total shame to lose them. Once they are gone you dont get them back!
