This is a petition to re-establish the Boys U.P. Regional Basketball tournament to a central location for Class C and D, and to be held on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This of course is the way it used to be many years ago before they closed Hedgecock Field house in Marquette. The Saturday finals were televised live, as both games were in the same gymnasium. This tournament was the single best venue for high school sports in the Upper Peninsula. With the current format the “C” and “D” Regionals are played at the same time and at different locations in the UP. Fans are not provided the opportunity to watch all the games and student athletes are not provided the opportunity to play in front of thousands of fans from across the UP. I have provided three solutions for locations of the tournament for you to review. (Escanaba, Marquette or Houghton) Escanaba and Marquette high schools are centrally located, but I would be concerned about the seating. Michigan Tech has the best facility, but I know the Eastern UP will be concerned with travel. Regardless as you can see by this petition many UP basketball fans want it changed back to the old format. Please consider a change and let’s afford fans and players the opportunity to participate in something special. Location 1. Marquette or Escanaba high school. Location 2. Michigan Tech
