| 153 | Timothy Harper | I am deeply opposed to the banning of books in general, and of this book in particular. The Bermudez Triangle contains neither sexually explicit language nor depictions of sexual behaviour. I strongly urge the committee involved in this issue to reconsider their initial (though currently retracted) decision. Spurious and hysterical book-banning (by people who haven't even bothered to read the work in question) is far more damaging in the long term to a community and its childern's development than any one work of fiction could be. |

| 156 | Deborah Hughes | No one group of people should have the right to dictate what is or is not acceptable reading. Narrow minded adults need to let their children grow up and face the reality of the world. |

| 161 | Dori | As a parent, you have a responsibility to determine which books may/may not be right for your individual child, but it's MY job to determine which books are right for MY children.
We need all kinds of books for all kinds of readers! |

| 163 | Sacha Whalen | I think homophobia is this generation's big discrimination. This is a human rights issue.
I find it interesting that the mother who began the ban uses educating the children as an argument.
Yes, please, let's educate them. |
| 164 | Jessica Mize | All families have a right to choose reading that is relevant to them. Libraries, school or otherwise, should have materials for varied interests. |

| 167 | Terie Garrison | Banning age-appropriate books is antithetical to the freedoms Americans hold so dear. Don't do it! |
| 168 | Diane Bailey | |
| 169 | Sarah McElrath | As a librarian, a writer, and a reader, I am opposed to banning books. |
| 170 | Louisa John | Please don't ban books. It's archaic and it's just wrong. |
| 171 | Jackie Parker | |
| 172 | Kim Peek | I hope you will reconsider banning The Bermudez Triangle. The book should be there for those who CHOOSE to read it. A book sitting on a shelf has no power until someone chooses to pull it from the shelf and open it. At that point, it can enlighten, entertain and enrich the lives of its readers. It is not for us to decide whose life is touched by a book. That is up to the child and his or her parents.
This book tells a wonderful story of love and friendship. It would be unfortunate for this book to be unavailable to a young adult who is trying to make sense of her world. |
| 173 | Elena Gleason | I especially object to the fact that the people proposing the book ban haven't even read the book, and that the only "objectionable content" is homosexual characters, not even sex. There are plenty of classic books that no one would even think of banning that I could come up with more objections to than THE BERMUDEZ TRIANGLE. Please support intellectual freedom and retain THE BERMUDEZ TRIANGLE at your local high school. |

| 178 | David Lubar | I have not yet read this book. Apparently, based on the content of the complaint, neither has the person who is asking for it to be banned. If people want to protect their children from something, they should protect them from hatred, ignorance, and bigotry, not from books. |

| 187 | Amie Rotruck | I reviewed this book when it first came out and was struck by what an amazing story it is. This is a story about relationships and it has a lot to teach people, not just children. |
| 188 | Erika Hamerquist | |
| 189 | Gabrielle Masse | This shouldn't happen anymore. |
| 190 | Rebecca Wolfe | |
| 191 | Bindy Fleischman | Homosexuality exists.
Drug use exists.
The word "scrotum" exists.
Sex exists.
Teenage pregnancy exists.
AIDS exists.
World religions exist.
Abortion exists.
Anyone is entitled to their OWN opinions on these matters, but disapproving of something does not make it WRONG, and denying something's existence does NOT make it go away.
Banning this book would be an exercise in ignorance. |
