Name: Christopher Liu on Oct 9, 2007Comments: This is not necessary. We don't need to destroy a park to build a bridge. Nor should any residents have to be displaced for a bridge. Regardless, I don't think that this is a very prudent way to spend taxpayers' money. It will have a bad effect on the Ottawa side's land value.Flag

Name: Doris on Nov 6, 2007Comments: Andrew Haydon Park is not just any park, it is: a meeting place for family and organizations to celebrate and spend an afternoon together, a cultural centre where many cultures and new immigrants come to enjoy a piece of nature, an heritage centre where every year we celebrate Canada Day, a peaceful retreat for the elderly, an educational centre where children learn about nature and where college students come to complete their class assignment, a recreational centre where miniature boater come to race their boat on the pond and where real life boaters enjoy the summer breeze on the lake, a health centre where joggers and roller skaters exercise, and where retired people keep in shape, a safe environment for young parents to let their children play, a peaceful place for the young mother to bring her newborn baby in a stroller, an inspiration for artists, a fund raising place where many events are organized all year around, a cross country ski paradise, a fishing heaven, a nature sanctuary where blue herons and are tame, a bird watcher paradise. Name: Shirley & Nyall Parks on Jan 30, 2008Comments: This area is a built up area which has a renown park at the riverfront. This is the widest area across and will cost much more than if the bridge was in the east. We have lived in Lakeview since 1963 and are retired people who would like to spend our few remaining years in the home we have lived in since then. We have catered to the people of Quebec for years and years. It is time we started thinking of the people of Ottawa-Nepean, OntarioFlag

Name: Jim Robertson on Feb 4, 2008Comments: It's just silly that any neighborhood in Ottawa could be ripped apart just to make commuting easier for the people who chose to live in the 'cheaper' areas of Gatineau. Why can't the abandoned rail bridge just east of the Water Filtration plant be turned into a road bridge the approaches and other infrastructure are already in place for this location.Flag

Name: John Thomas on Feb 4, 2008Comments: To build a bridge that will literally ruin a happy, contented and pretty community for convenience of the moment is immoral. Build the bridge where it presently has least impact on community - the traffic will use it wherever it is. Build outside the community.Flag

Name: Trudy Hall on Feb 10, 2008Comments: This bridge would put a 4 km scar across a beautiful lake in the city of Ottawa. This natural gem in the city has several parks and four sailing clubs on it. The people of Ottawa will lose a major natural asset and entire communities will be heavily impacted. The process is bulldozing along and concerned followers feel that only lip service is being given to environmental, habitat, community, social, and quality of life issues. Major emphasis is put on planning direct highway to highway linkages rather than using the highways to direct traffic around populated areas and major natural resources (such as in a ring road). The city is expanding west rapidly such that highways and bridges, planned beyond the population limits now, will, in the 10 year time line, allow for proper city and community and environmental planning around these routes. Communities can then grow up around a planned artery. We want the planning to be done for the future not hastily for the present.Flag

This park is loved and enjoyed by not only residents of this area but thousands of people and boaters from all over the city of Ottawa as well as tourists to our area. There has to be consideration not to ruin such a beautiful park enjoyed by so many people.Flag

Name: Boehm-Heberlein on Feb 12, 2008Comments: The poposal for an inter-provincial bridge crossing at the Moodie Drive or Holly Acres Road are terribly flawed. First and foremost, neither site will address the much needed resolution to reduce truck traffic through downtown Ottawa....second, both sites will destroy some of the most scenic shorelines of the Ottawa River and thirdly, aside from its environmental value, Andrew Haydon Park is the most widely used parkland setting along the river and used daily by thousands of residents and their families, visitor, walking groups and social gatherings. Throughout the year the park is the heart and soul of this region with its concerts , picnics etc... and must remain for future generations to enjoy.Flag

It will significantly lower property values. It will cost significantly more than other options since this is the widest part of the river. It will negatively impact Ottawa's ability to attract and retain hi-tech communityFlag

Name: Katherine Cooper on Feb 15, 2008Comments: Andrew Haydon Park is very important to this community and surrounding environs. Youth, elderly, families and the arts, as they are celebrated using this locale, will all suffer if this location is pursued as a viable option. The pollution generated with the implementation of a bridge in this area will seriously disturb and threaten the indigenous wildlife as well as negatively affect the health of residents. Andrew Haydon Park is widely used by the complete spectrum of age groups. It is a place near and dear to the hearts of persons living in the area. It is an important land mass to preserve as parkland for the successful development and support of the neighbourhood , the maintenance of our wildlife and as a place where summer pursuits of sailing, jogging, walking and general societal pleasures may be experienced. A bridge through this area would be devastating and injurious to the fabric of our society. Please accept these concerns with the greatest deliberation and I hope that wisdom to place the bridge in another less damaging area will prevail.Flag

There is no benefit to our area other than more traffic from Quebec residents and commercial vehicles . It will just add to the already oppressive noise and congestion the widening of the 417 was supposed to resolve.Flag

Name: Laurie on Feb 15, 2008Comments: The building of the bridge is unfair to the members of the Crystal Beach, Crystal Bay, and surrounding communities. The traffic this bridge will introduce will cause great disturbance. As well, Andrew Hayden park, Moodie Drive, Holly Acres and Carling Avenue present extremely valued parts of the community and any hindering thereof is unacceptable. We will fight to preserve the peace of our community.Flag

Name: Akram Khan on Feb 17, 2008Comments: Any bridge through Andrew Hayden Park is a very bad idea for many reasons some of which are: (1) It will almost destroy the most beautiful park in the city (Andrew Hayden Park) which is crowded throughout three seasons of the year and which can also be made to use in the winter with some proper planning. The park is being used not only by the surrounding communities but by people from as far away as the 10th line in the east to hold community picnics. It is used for Nepean day and many more cultural functions by city-wide groups. (2) It will definitely cost a lot more to build a bridge across the area close to Andrew Hayden Park because of the longest bridge span required through the wider bay on the Ottawa River. Let us not be made to believe through some calculation juggling to show that it will not cost to build and maintain the longest span. (3) It will disturb the established areas around the corridor immensely, whereas there are alternative routs for the bridge outside the high population areas. (4) It is an inter-provincial bridge and it does not have to even pass through the city area. There are other potential routs to bypass the cities. (5) The closeness of 416&147 intersection to Andrew Hayden is no point of merit at all because of the high cost of the long span at this point, almost destruction of the most beautiful park and disturbing established communities; or alternately moving the exit for the bridge slightly to the west will be more than compensated by avoiding high cost of building and maintaining a long span over Andrew Hayden. (6) The pain of Andrew Hayden loss, as it is now, will not diminish within a few generations if a blunder is made by deciding to pass it through Andrew Hayden Park. It will not be a forgivable mistake no matter how many words are used to justify this rout.Flag

Name: Najam Khan on Feb 18, 2008Comments: Hi, I hope that the plans for the bridge running through Andrew Haydon park will not become a reality. I realize the need for a bridge and that the city has to put it somewhere, but I also think that the need for a bridge does not trump all the concerns that have obviously been listed 1000 times. Please move it west where development can happen around the bridge, not forcing an unsuspecting community to adapt to a monster bridge, that isnt even an efficient solution. How about a better light rail plan that will reduce traffic and maybe the need for the bridge altogether! Bye.Flag
