Name: Anonymous on Jul 6, 2007Comments: There is no need to BRIDGE Quebec with Ontario more than it already is. This is a Region that doesn't even want to be part of Canada. No one that I know of is desperately trying to travel to Aylmer or Gatineau in a more timely manner. This entire scenario is simply to better facilitate Quebec'rs while ruining our hard earned investments and lifestyle. I have already voiced my concerns on paper but here is another example of why I am opposed. I have just returned from a trip to PEI. All provinces are obligated to provide bilingual signage EXCEPT Quebec. I am fortunate enough to speak fluently in French and read in French therefore I was easily able to decipher where were were and/or were going. My spouce however was dependant on me to guide him where the signage was not evident. You'd think for sure we were in another country. As we approached Levi (Quebec city) there was a HUGE sign along the highway stating "Welcome to the Nations Capital". My head spun. Momentarily, I questioned my geography. This I found not only offensive but typical of Quebec's childish and self centered attitude towards the rest of Canada. This sign was the ONLY sign we saw in a bilingual format and MUST be removed and reprimands handed out. Way to confuse real tourists from Abroad or from the States. Imagine the additional signage cost that will be incurred, the destruction of a significantly used and reputable park, homes in the over $500k dollar range wiped out also reducing the value of the remaining homes, the noise, the traffic, the ignorant damage to: wildlife, boating, water quality while offering Quebec'rs easier access to our communities jobs and roadways in which we altimately pay for through our provincial taxes. This entire undertaking is apauling and I am clearly very much opposed to any such undertaking.Flag

Name: Joanne De Franco on Jul 6, 2007Comments: When I was first informed of the study to build the inter-provincial bridge or tunnel at either Moodie Drive or Holly Acres Road I had to ask myself why the Province of Ontario would allow such a disruption to one of the most beautiful parks and communities in Ottawa. Is it to provide convenience to commuters travelling to Ontario from Quebec I fail to see the benefits to our province of having another bridge built, especially when the enviornment and the entire community will be completely disrupted. I also feel that the "Terms of Reference" document has not considered the City of Ottawa's long term Transportation Planning and has omitted three of the five proposed sites before a full consultation was conducted. I grew up on Aspen Grove in Stonehedge and my parents still live there. This is a home that was built by my father and it is unfathomable that there is even a possibility that this house will be demolished. I ask that you take these concerns seriously and reconsider the placement of the interprovicial crossing.Flag

Name: Catherine Allen on Jul 6, 2007Comments: The impact of these two options is too great in terms of the environment, quality of life and community economics. I don't know much about the reasons why there is so much commercial traffic through the Ottawa-Gatineau corridor, but given the lengthy timeline and all levels of government' commitment to environmentally responsible government, shouldn't the consultant's mandate be finding ways to avoid building a new bridge, tunnel or rail crossingFlag

Name: George C. Young on Jul 6, 2007Comments: I would suggest that any high-speed link to Quebec use a Ottawa River crossing that minimizes impact to the environment and boat traffic. If expropriation must occur, please consider relocating the entire surrounding communities to the bridge approaches, not just those in the right-of-way.Flag

Name: Violet Horvath on Jul 6, 2007Comments: I strongly protest the proposed inter-provincial crossing cooridors at Holly Acres Road And Moodie Drive. As a long term resident (21 years) of Lakeview/Crystal Beach, I request that these 2 options be eliminated from the study. Our neighbourhood is having enough of a negative impact with the widening of the 417 west and the illogical and ridiculous redirection of traffic from the 416 onto Holly Acres Road to get right back on to the 417 west bound. There are much better solutions to this problem ...Flag

Name: Judith McShane on Jul 6, 2007Comments: It would be a huge mistake to destroy Andrew Haydon Park for the many hundreds of people who enjoy its beauty and easily accessed location. Families are able to walk from their homes and apartments to picnic, attend events, relax, and enjoy the view. Please do not take away this marvellous place and turn it into another noisy, busy roadway where motors matter more than souls.Flag

Name: Peggy McGillivray on Jul 6, 2007Comments: I object to Holley Acres Rd. being considered as a possible crossing corridor because of the massive number of expropriation of homes that would be required, because of the polluted environment that other nearby homes ( those that were not expropriated) would be subjected to, because of the huge financial cost of a 3 km bridge across Lac Deschaines, because of the loss of Andy Haydon Park as a place of quiet enjoyment, because of the threat to Ottawa's drinking water by the water pollution that a high traffic bridge creates, because of the loss of habitate for water fowl, because of the loss of open, clear water for sailing, boating wind surfing etc, .......... because taking the City of Ottawa's downtown traffic problem and placing that same problem in another area of the city, where just as many people are affected, is unacceptable. Interprovincial light rail, better interprovincial bussing, an out-of-city truck traffic river crossing route are all better options than the Holley Acres crossing. Please remove Holley Acres Rd. from the list of possible crossing corridors forthwith. Peggy McGillivrayFlag

We were shocked to hear there are possible plans for a bridge. A bridge over this area of the river would destroy the community and ruin OttawaFlag

Name: RobinAllardyce on Jul 9, 2007Comments: I find the planning process to lack credible input from citizens from either side of the river. I expect (suspect) that the planning process is driven by developers and tract owners on both sides of the river and that in itself greatly unbalances the process of finding what might be the best solution for all parties who are involved at this time and who will be impacted in the future ( and there will be future impacts). Particularly difficult to understand is why designers must consider the most expensive and difficult solutions to problems, ie; crossing the river at one of the widest points available. I am also not in favour of considering the earlier solution of building a crossing at Alymer Island for that brings little benefit to the people of Kanata or to the people of Alymer who look to access jobs and shopping in Ottawa. It would also have a major impact on a great recreational resource used extensively by the populations of both provinces each and every year. I am prepared to support the devleopment of mass transit between the cities, that cross the river to link OCTranspo with Gatineau transit services, to see the ticfkets and transfers of each system to be accepted by the other system during the commuter rush hours which might go a long waty to eliminating the doubling of busses on Wellington Street during these times. Consider alternatives to auto commuting and you have my support. Provide reasonable cost public transit for populations of both sides of the river that will encourage able bodied persons to travel by means other than that of car (bus, train, bicycle, walk) We need this to begin to save our cities. We don't need more roads and bridges that are up to capacity well before design time and that are almost immediately crying out for improvement. It is well understood that if you build it they will fill it. We (the people) are generally lazy and must be pushed (gently and firmly) towards alternative. Eh!Flag

Name: Don Davidson on Jul 11, 2007Comments: It doesnt make any sense to put a 4Km bridge across the widest part of thr Ottawa river. If it did happen the Enviromental impact would be serious for the Ottawa Water treatment plant downstream After living in this area for almost 50 years I object tp being expropiated for such a stupid Idea. The best crossing point is the other side of the water works at the rapids, and is easily accesable to the NCC parkway.Flag

Name: Alistair Boyle on Jul 13, 2007Comments: This bridge would significantly impede the recreation possibilities on the Ottawa River. There are a great number of sail boats that use Lac Deschaine and putting a bridge through the proposed locations would seriously harm the viability of sailing and racing on Lac Deschaine. In addition Andew Haydon park is one of the most beautiful parks along the Ottawa River. It would be a shame to ruin what is currently a beautiful vista.Flag
