True people with means may loose out as well but they probably could go elsewhere. No one wants the bridge in their backyard but the 'Lake' part of the Ottawa River should be left un obstructed and maintained in as much purity as possible.Flag

Name: Bill Crick on Jul 4, 2007Comments: Next to, but closer than the Gatineau Hills, Lac Deschene is one of the top geographic features of the Ottawa Area offering beautiful vistas, sunsets, and recreational use such as sailing, kayaking, windsurfing etc. To cut this asset in half (quartering its value to the region at least) only to provide more access to development in the Gatineau is sheer lunacy. Please think larger than a bridge, and strike this option immediately. I am completely opposed to this possibilityFlag

Name: The Watson Family on Jul 4, 2007Comments: We have lived on Horner Drive for many years (22 to be exact). Of course the biggest concern is having our property expropriated, and having to find somewhere else to live, but even if that didn't happen, the whole community would change - Andrew Haydon Park would be gone and there would be so much more traffic in the neighbourhood. There's already enough traffic/pollution on Holly Acres, I shudder to think how it would be with a bridge to Quebec at the end of the street. We believe that a bridge in this area is unnecessary, the Champlain Bridge is sufficient for traffic to and from the west end of the city.Flag

Name: Ken Phillips on Jul 4, 2007Comments: One of the primary goals of a new bridge is to move truck traffic out of the core of the city i.e. off of King Edward Ave. Moving that same truck traffic through either Ottawa or Gatineau to then create traffic, noise and environmental problems/issues in established residential communities and park lands seems completely counter productive. With the Kettle Island option having been on the books for I don't know how many years, it would seem the first and best option. Delaying and at the same time providing developers with permits to build residential housing along that bridge corridor will not make the decision any easier. The other principal purpose of the crossing is to move people i.e. mostly commuters. The options available to achieve that have not been completely and satisfactorily explored. Specifically the potential for bus and/or rail transport. A new bridge crossing option for the purpose of carrying commuters is a misguided undertaking until and unless the mass/public transport option has been completely exhausted.Flag

Its job is describe as to plan, develop and use these properties as a source of "pride and unity for Canadians." While this bridge may unite us geographically - psychologically...we will be divided. Name: GARRY GALLEY on Jul 5, 2007Comments: I cannot put into words how vehemently I oppose any interprovincial crossing through our community( Moodie/Holy Acres). I fully understand that the NCR is a vibrant growing region that will need to keep up to the added growth. It seems as people who are in charge plan change they neglect to see the damage created to people personally . Communities torn apart that have been solid staples for families. Family homes demolished. The enviroment and landscape forever altered. If this crossing does happen homeowners and land owners will never be compensated properly for their properties. The homes demolished will be undervalued and the ones that remain that will have a huge bridge beside them and all the negative factors that go along with it will never be compensated for what value of their properties it diminished them. Have they looked into widening existing bridges, creating more lanes. Re opening dormant ones used for rail and making them automotive friendlyWidening the Parkway Looking into a ferry system Lets all hope someone can come up with a more friendly solution to this issue.Flag

Name: John Dunning on Jul 5, 2007Comments: Please remove the Lac Deschenes options for potential bridge locations as they would ruin the parts of Ottawa which make it a good place to live. I think bridges further west and sailboat friendly would be more forward looking, more useful and leave this recreational water body intact. Instead of being late in serving the west Ottawa and west Quebec expansion, be proactive and reap the benefits of much less disruption at the accesses, and better planning opportunities around the traffic flows. Please consider, not only the impact of the accesses, which would be terrible, but also the impact to lake itself, which supports a thriving sailing community with low ecological impact and definite visual appeal.Flag

Name: Jonathan Cappello on Jul 5, 2007Comments: To whom it may concern, I have grown up in the Lakeview neighbourhood and have been a resident of Aero Drive for over 20 years. The bridge at Holly Acres road will destroy Andrew Haydon park and the Lakeview community. The NCC will make a colossal error in placing this bridge at Holly Acres Rd. or Moodie Drive. Please do not devastate this mature, well established and beautiful community with a bridge. I hope to raise my children in this community: without the smothering air pollution, spoiled greenspace and noise this bridge will bring. As a group dedicated to protecting the national captial's beauty and greenspaces, you should be ashamed for senselessly causing so much distress among taxpaying, homeowning, hardworking and civic-minded Ottawa residents. The idea to build this bridge through parks, a school and a well populated west end community is idiotic! The very suggestion of placing this bridge at Holly Acres Rd. or Moodie Drive demonstrates the need for a thorough review of the NCC's leadership, decision making and accountability to the citizens of Ottawa. Sincerely, Jonathan Cappello 61 Aero Drive H: (613) 726-1710Flag

Name: Lynda Smyth on Jul 5, 2007Comments: In my opinion, any plan that includes destroying Andrew Haydon Park and the Ottawa riverfront recreational area in Nepean is completely shortsighted. This recreation area is well-used by a vast number of area residents currently, and as housing density increases in Ottawa and private yards diminish and disappear, well planned recreational areas will be increasingly vital to the city's well-being.Flag
