Every year, smoking takes the lives of many people worldwide. It is tragic, especially when children lose their parents or other family members through the result of tobacco consumption such as Lung Cancer. These types of illnesses from smoking result in a young death for many. However, the consumption of tobacco products doesn't just lead to health problems. It also contributes to environmental problems, such as an increase in global pollution and trouble breaking down used tobacco products such as cigarettes. When a person smokes, it's not only the smoker that gets affected. It's the people around them that are also affected by the consumption of tobacco products (known as 2nd and 3rd hand smoking). Younger Children who inhale cigarette smoke, smell tobacco on a person or have parents that are smokers can be at a greater risk of asthma later on in their lives. On 3rd December 2003 the New Zealand government passed an amendment to the Smoke-free Environments Act 1990 which ment no one could from 2004 smoke inside all indoor public workplaces and inside hospitality venues (pubs, bars, restaurants and casinos). Now its time to take the final step and get rid of it alltogether, please show your support and help save lives!
