Name: Teresa Finney on Jun 1, 2007Comments: April 5th 2007 Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., Post Office Box 266000, Dallas Texas 75326 I opened an account with Wells Fargo Bank in Bastrop Texas so I could have some place to cash my checks without going into Town to do business. When I opened the account the very first day I started with a $369.00 check. I told the assistant that I would like $ 200.00 in savings and 168.00 in checking and 20.00 in cash in return. When I got home and looked at my account online I was missing 100.00 dollars. So I called the same day and then went back to the bank and I was told that the mistake would be caught later that evening, I would see a correction and a credit would be made to my account. Since then I have recieved a bank statement and there was never a transaction shown for the 20.00 cash I recieved but it shows my check was deposited as 349.99. So the 20.00 transaction has completely disappeared. Upon opening the account I was also told that once a month 75.00 would automatically be transferred from my checking to saving and the computer was set up that way and should I need the money just go online and transfer the money back into my checking. So I paid some bills and made some purchases but I was not over drawn nor was my purchase going to exceed what remainder I had in checking, but the computer automatically took 30.00 out of my savings and placed it into my checking all the while the bank paid itself 10.00 of the 75.00 for the unnecessary transfer. On March 30th 2007 I went to deposit my check at the drive up window. There were no deposit slips out side to fill out. I put my check and my cash bank card in the little tube, then sent it to the teller. I got a cashed check back. My pay check was 768.37. I sent seven $100 dollar bills back through to the drive up teller and asked for them to be deposited. The teller fiddled around and then she asked me if I was verifying that I was keeping $168 dollars out and I statedFlag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 30, 2007Comments: My employer had deposited a $5000 certified check when things were tight one time to cover payroll. Check was deposited on Thursday at 10 am and payroll went out Friday at 2 pm. 3 employees had their paychecks bounce because the bank ( 5/3) held up the certified check for 5 business days ( what is the purpose of someone paying for a certified check only ti have it held up). My employer was not informed by the back that the check would be held back. Needless to say when I got paid I deposited my check and started using my debit card over the weekend to the tune of 15 times (sometimes for a purchase as low as $3). As soon as my employer saw themselves getting dinged overdraft fees for the account being ow they notified each and every employee what had happened. They also informed us at the time to stop using our accounts ( they knew whose checks had come back) if our balances were dependent on the paycheck. My employer said they would handle any fees. Mind you I bank at 5/3 the same bank as my paycheck is drawn on. Now does it seem resonable that when I took my check down 5/3 should have made sure the check was good before they accepted it from me They always check personal checks drawn from them when I bring them in. My employer did cover all of the fees the employees incured but it was horrible. One emplyed incurred a 10% fee at a check cashing place and my employer took in the cash to cover the check and the fee immediately. One employee was charged $10 for the returned check to his account (NOW here is the kicker he is a 5/3 customer also so they dinged my employer $33 for the bounced check a total of $43 for the bank) . Now as for me and my debit card transactions. 5/3 hit me for 495 in fees $33 for each item. In all My employer paid $916 in fees to ONE BANK ( all of these transactions were moving back and forth through the same bank) for a total of $859 in bad payroll checks. There is no way 5/3 did 906 dollars of work for all of this. And they were such jerks about the whole thing saying they could not reverse fees EVER and such. What happened to good customer service. It all could have been avoided if 1- 5/3 had looked at the account for all the checks and said hey sorry this account has no money then we could have gone back to our employer and said hey what's up! Then my employer could have found out why a cashier's check was being held up. It is all so wrong. Everyone is so upset about the cost of gas when what we really need to worry about is the fact that the banking industry made 10 BILLION in bounced check fees alone in 2006.Flag

This is out of control, the bank refused to refund the charges, said it is in my terms and conditions that on the 3rd statement return, they would charge me. The rich get richer and the midclass is becoming poorer and the the poor, well simply said...there is no chance of equal opportunity for the poor.Flag

Name: Andrea Goodson on Nov 21, 2007Comments: I have not always been perfect in balancing my account, but I have never purposfully tried to spend money I did not have. Today I was ROBBED of my entire paycheck by citizens bank. I awoke this morning to find that my account had been charged a 152.00 overdraft fee when my balance previous to the fee was positive 50.60. The fee they charged me put me in the negative. I was confused so I called that lovely 800 number to be told a bunch of bs that made no sense to me whatsoever. I could not even tell you what the woman was talking about it was a real "runaround". Finally I just said that I did not care, that it was my money and I wanted it back. She said she would check to see if I "qualify" for a "courtesy rebate". She said she would credit me back 105.00 OK thanks for only stealing 47.00 of my money! So I decided to let it go and just watch my account carefully. So later today I checked my balace online again. They had charged me another fee of 138.00!!! When I called to find out why I was told that it was for 3 transactions that had gone through after they had charged me the fee the first time!! This is all there fault!! No where on my statement does it show that I put myself in a negative balance!! They put me in the negative and they don't care. I was told this time they would credit me back 38.00 Thanks for the courtesy!!! Citizens bank basically stole money from me today and now I can't pay my bills this week. Real nice right before Christmas. I was given no real explanation just the run around about transactions being on hold and not posted yet. I was forewarned that more fees may be coming. This is total thievery and they should be out of business.Flag

I had given the bank over 600.00 before I closed it just for the month and now they say I owe that much more after I closed the account.. It's a no win game for us..Flag

Citizens bank it the bank where I have had a problem and sometimes it is just that something came through early or you post dated a check and the person cashed it early and the teller doesn't take not of the date on the check...then we get charged for all the fees and if you dont' check they hit you up again seven days later. I hope more people sign this petition because it is ridiculous.Flag

Sometimes a transaction shows up on my internet bank account then dissapears then shows up as a transaction when my account shows i dont have enough funds so they can then charge me $34 over draft fee for a negitave balance of $1.23. I really feel I am getting screwed big time. I guess I have to be a genius to keep track of my simple checking account. At least if they are going to charge OD fees. Do a Fee per day, No they OD me by $1.00 from first OD fee so the charge me another OD fee.. This is so unfair. Name: Tammy D. Moon on Apr 4, 2008Comments: Below is what I had put into a complaint today with the BBB about a former bank that I had an account with. I have another account already set up with another bank that does not do the following. *********** 3 days after a deposit was made into account, that had over draft protection, of $348.00 this company decided to charge off $248.40 still left on this over drafted protected account without permission or consultation with me. The $248.40 that was still on the account as being owed came from this company charging a daily $6.00 fee for over draft on top of the already charged over draft that was taken out of $32. So, on an over drafted protected account, if one over drafted $100 they were charged 32% for that overdraft charge, plus an additional 6% for every day that the account was in the negative. If the account thus stayed in the negative on this over drafted protected account for a total of 5 days an individual in this example would have paid 62% interest on that $100, or $62. They refuse to credit back, or keep this account open even after they had an active direct deposit made into the account. That amount they charged off was just in their fees, and their fees are way above the legal interest allowed for any banking institution in the state.Flag

Name: Dennis Crapser on May 12, 2008Comments: Overdrafts: You charge overdraft fees based on the available balance rather than the ledger balance. That means If I have a $100.00 in my acct on Friday and deposited another $100.00 after work on Friday, then I used my check card for purchase totaling $101.00 or more, I'll get charged overdraft fees because my deposit won't be recognized until Monday at midnight even though it is there and all those purchases will be covered. It is even worst if it is a holiday weekend. This is very unethical if not fringing on illegal. Plus the bank pays the largest first so smaller charges get hit to even if there would have been enough money to cover themFlag

Name: JP on Jun 3, 2008Comments: TD Banknorth is now charging fees for PENDING transactions, so they are free to charge up to $35 per transaction if there is not enough money in your account to cover a pending transaction. "Pending" is the key word here. This means a transaction that has not yet been confirmed. So you have no time to deposit money into your account prior to the transaction being authorized. I will be closing my account as soon as I possibly can. Since no one in our government is stepping up to make the banks stop this ridiculous practice that they continually are getting away with, the only way to handle this is to close your account, open an account with a credit union that charges lower fees or hide your money under your mattress and pay by money order or cash for everything. Everyone discusses these things, but no one does anything about it. If we take away our business from the banks, they will stop charging fees.Flag

Name: Sophia Lynch on Jun 5, 2008Comments: Last March I opened two accounts at Wachovia and have direct deposit. One account is for my rent and other household expenses and the other is for my regular expenditure. I got paid on Friday 05/30/08 and since my rent is due by the 06/5 I transferred over most of my movey over to my second account leaving about $150 in my 1st account. Last weekend I wrote 2 checks and used my visa check card for several minor tranactions all of which would have created an overdraft in my account of about $30.00. When I checked my account on Monday the balance was $34.25 so, realizing that I will need more money in this I account transferred over $100.00 from the household account. On Tuesday when I checked my account I was charged $175.00 in fees and was told I would be charged an additional $86.00 because of pending transactions. To date my account have been chaged $310.00 in fees. One check for $8.36 was returned twice but of course I was charged 35.00 twice for this single check. Another for $10.00 was returned and I was charged 35 for that and I bet I will be charged another 35.00 when it goes back to the bank. WACHOVIA is scewing me out of every penny I have. I tried to retrieve the fees but they told I was not entitled to a refund. I must say that Bank of America would never have done this and I am heading back to them. If I make a deposit before the transactions clear, they would not have charged me overdraft fees. Also, they would have paid the checks and charge me the overdraft. Now I have to pay Wachovia for fucking me over, then pay the vendors and whatever fees they access. Sucks.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 9, 2008Comments: suggestion on how to really fix. do not make a complaint about the banking institution. make the complaint about your state's Attorney General. Send the complaint to your states' Attorney General. Let us see if we can do it all on the same day with US postal receipt mail. if we get enough people states attorney generals will have a couple days of just rubber stamping receipts before they can even open them to see what they are about. I suggest something like this for the NSF issue -- replace "Our State" with your actual states name-- --------- The citizens of this state have been complaining for years about the bank practice of posting the daily transactions of accounts from largest first to smallest last. Resulting in many extra NSF checks where there would only be one. I feel, with your lackadaisical policies toward predator lending, and your non-proactive practices toward protecting the moral majority against bank policies such as these, you have ignored your responsibilities of consumer protection. I would like policy made that banks operating inside the borders of "Our State", are 1.) required to post daily deposits before daily withdraws 2.) required to post daily withdraws in the order smallest to largest 3.) required to have reasonable NSF fees according to an agreement with of the state of "Our State" and licensed banks operating inside "Our State". Maybe no one has asked for these consumer protections before me, I cannot believe that after viewing all the posting on the Internet about this subject. However please conceder yourself formally asked. ------- many Attorney Generals have complaint forms right online for download.Flag

This is done regardless of the chronological order that the bank receives the credits and debits. This unethical and deceitful practice results in those who can least afford penalties being charged insufficient fund fees even when credits arrived at the bank prior to debits. I have contact my congressman, Tim Holden, in PA whose office told me that if they receive enough complaints that the procedure would be reviewed.Flag
