Name: Sukla Sen, EKTA (Committee For Communal Amity), Mumbai on May 14, 2010Comments: Killing people, even those with credible charges of crime against them, without the due process of law is a grave crime. The "honour killings" are grave crimes also on that count apart from being acts of coercion and intimidation to keep in force an outdated and oppressive caste structure and denial of individual choice in deciding one's partner. That's just unacceptable. The "democratic" State must act to protect "democratic" norms and values, and lives of citizens threatened by such obnoxious practice..Flag

Name: Kavya Ashok Kumar on May 14, 2010Comments: Whether it is now or a hundred years from now, or a hundred years ago - one set of people deciding 'right and wrong' for another set is in itself a bad, bad system - especially when it's imposing. Then 'Honour killing'? It is unthinkable and unquestionably a horrible violation of human rights - a shame on the practice, the practitioners and on all of us if we ignore it and let it continue...Flag

Name: Hiren N on May 14, 2010Comments: If honour killings are part of our culture, then we should be ashamed. Honour killings not only bring shame to us but to the nation also as well. Are we this underdeveloped? I have no interest in urbanizing rural areas but they a sense of humanity and justice should prevail in the minds of villagers.Flag

Name: Professor Dr. Vibhuti Patel on May 15, 2010Comments: Newspapers are full of incidences of torture, abduction, forced abortion, lynching, and murder of newly married couples with different caste, religious, ethnic or racial backgrounds. It is distressing to note that even the state and criminal justice system miserably fails to provide adequate protection to such love marriages. Such couples have to face social boycott, can’t easily get jobs, accommodation and school admissions for their children. We need social reform movement of the kind in the 19th century.Flag

Name: Kanta Singh on May 15, 2010Comments: I strongly condemn the killings of young people in the name of community 'Honour'. The burden of this honour is always placed on either women or young men from relatively poor households/dalits. These Khaps dare not touch anyone from rich families. Also the political patronage enjoyed by these unconstitutional bodies is making us lose our faith in democratic institutions.Flag
