Name: Anonymous on Oct 21, 2007Comments: These are NOT toys! There is no such thing as a safe and sane "Consumer Fireworks". When used by unlicensed, untrained, and often drunk people are setting these off, they are exposing themselves, children, and their neighbors to potential horrible consequences. Injuries, fires, deaths! These are labeled "EXPLOSIVE" for a reason! Things happens way too fast! Loose your eyesight, fingers, suffer burns or injuries, have a love one suffer, OR have an animal suffer (Yes, horses are a "flight or fight" animal, and many have suffered cuts, injuries, colic, and death!). Why even take the risk There is nothing redeeming about a "Consumer Fireworks"! STOP THIS NOW!Flag

Name: Rebecca Frank on Oct 22, 2007Comments: I am against the legalization of public fireworks. I see no good reason to make available something that could end up harming the environment, such as fires, injuries to people or animals and the added pollution of smoke as well as the remnants of explosive devices. As one who suffers from only having 50% lung capacity I also fear the smoke pollution. I live with woods all around me and am concerned about the potential for fires sparked by flying missles. I also have experienced teenagers around our area, using guns for target practice with no adult supervision as well as bonfires with brush that has been accumilated for months and looks like the type of bonfire schools use to have during homecoming week. I fear that legalizing fireworks would be the new "thrill", for these teens. I also believe that when fireworks are part of any celebration you will most times find alcohol part of the celebration as well. We fight against drunk driving, do we not have the same concerns about lighting motars and missles by someone who has been drinking and people standing around who's judgement may not be the best due to drinking as well Accidents do happen, but why add the potential of someone having something that is explosive and try to advertise it as something fun and harmless. With all the concern over violence and terrorism these days it seems odd that we are even thinking of making something so potentially dangerous available to be used in other ways. We talk about guns and the dangers but with fireworks we have taken the gun away and left the gun powder to be lit and fired for the sake of companies making money. The people who want to make bombs for evil purposes will have no further to go than to the local fireworks store. They can walk in and buy as much as they want and once it is out the door no one will be able to control how it is used. I think if we try to kid ourselves that the devices are for agrilcultural uses, we are not being honest with ourselves. I see very few neighborhoods with concerns about birds eating from fields of vegetables. I am against the legalization of any firework for whatever purpose.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Oct 23, 2007Comments: We have first hand knowledge and experience with neighborhood fireworks (rockets, especially) landing in our pasture, causing frightened horses to run wildly and bolt into fences causing injury. These same neighbors have no respect for drought conditions which could contribute to wildfire. As with most things today, decisions are made based on how much money can be made by those who want whatever law to be passed. Rather, just laws should protect citizens and their property, including livestock, from the dangers inherent in fireworks, especially when in the hands of backyard amateurs. To legalize fireworks as such an activity is not only irresponsible lawmaking but an indicator of voting for profit over simple, yet important, safety.Flag

I enjoy fireworks in display on holidays. But to have them just to enoy is a different problem and danger.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Oct 24, 2007Comments: Fireworks were banned for home use years ago for the safety of everyone. We live in closer proximity than ever & the danger is greater. I have homes on the fence line & my horses/mules react violently to unexpected & continuous loud noises & lights. Please don't allow this to pass - for the safety of all.Flag

Name: Diane Pahl on Dec 2, 2007Comments: Fireworks should be left in the professionals hands since there are so many dangers when using them. Also, the noise involved is a problem if it is allowed to happen in our neighborhoods. Some of us must work all hours of the day and night . I know because I carry a pager after hours for a hopital and must go in for emergency calls. What about the right of the rest of us that just want peace and quiet.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 4, 2008Comments: What used to be a favorite holiday has turned into a dread with people exploding displays that rival the professionals in our neighborhood creating a dangerous situation. I am tired of calling the police every 4th of July because rockets are hitting my home. For days, my nerves are rattled with explosions that sound like dynamite being set off. It's irresponsible and the police don't seem to want to enforce the law and overlook the crime. Just now, a loud BOOM. If they want to hear BOOMs sent them to a war zone!!!!!! These people are criminals.Flag
