Name: Alexandra Franklin on Dec 15, 2005State: WVCountry: USComments: my sister has been suffering with anarexia for over 5 years, and it makes me sick. It really caught my attention when there was a pro-ana website in the history. I want it to stop. She is my best friend and i cant lose her to this. She weighs about 100 pounds and cuts herself because she thinks she is not skinny. I am 5'1" and weigh a healthy 130 pounds, have a loving boyfriend and a great life. I hate seeing her like this. It kills me every day. Please, lets make it stop! For everyone's sake!Flag

Name: Brittany Clements on Dec 22, 2005State: KSCountry: USComments: I went to one of these sites, and was completely and utterly disgusted. I can't believe that it is allowed for young women to openly discuss what to do in order to become the "perfect anorexic". They show pictures of what they can look like or "the perfect figure", and they are all skin and bones. On another part of the site, there was a bunch of pictures of obese women that were supposed to make young women fear becoming this way. It makes me sick, and I truely hope that this can be stopped.Flag

Called the thin club i thought it would be one of those cringy women's programs 'make me beautiful' etc but no...it was about these appauling sites. A youg girl of 15 setting herself rediculous weight targets from a pro-ana site of 7 stone..lower and lower after that. also the fact that they tamper with celeb photos so thet're ribs stick out and they're legs are stick thin so young girls will aspire to them. It's sick, if there is any more i could do to help with this i would be up for it. it makes me sick. AmieFlag

They literally make me sick as i come across them! yet it makes me sad to think about the girls who get onto them and drink in every word these people tell them, and in the process of "becoming thin",they don't realize that they are hurting themselves and the people around them. Good Luck and God Bless!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 26, 2006State: TXCountry: USComments: Most of these websites have disclaimers saying that the information is to help people with eating disorders. If you read closer you find that the content is just a way to stroke the ego of many pro ana girls. These websites are very dangerous and I consider the content to be like giving free drugs to an addict.Flag

Name: Stefani O'driscoll on Jan 26, 2006State: CACountry: USComments: I feel that the freedom of speech is important and therefore pro ana web sites should not be banned. no matter what, girls (and even boys) will ALWAYS have access to triggering photos (In Style magazine, Glamor, Allure, Cosmo, as well as thousands of other sources. A young girl could just as easily look up "ballet" on the web and see thousands of pictures of rail thin dancers who honesty look just as frail and emaciated as a young women who are proud of her "pro-ana" statis). "tips" on how to starve are not hard to find either. it's not that hard to figure out that word of mouth gets out fast as well. getting rid of these web sites will not _ever_ encourage someone to get better (to get over their disorders), but will just make these people look to different sources. it's like telling someone to get over Obsessive compulsive disorder. a little more is needed to overcome a mental addiction. if we are to get rid one "offensive" genre of sites, then it'll get into a whole multitude of things being labled as"offensive". there are millions of porn sites, DIY bomb and weapon sites etc, that people complain about, but really, its just about monitoring what your kid (or what have you) is looking up. it's not your job to play Web police. however, you do put up a fight for a good reason . its very sad that millions of young and impressionable girls (and in some cases, guys) fall into such an terribly addictive and self-distructive cycle. it's something that is very seldomly understood, and could take years to overcome, and could even result in death. the only thing that could ever rid the world of this problem for good would be to completely rid every single piece of media, advertisment, fashion, etc, that glorifies (and even lables) being emaciated and malnourished as being "in". that, i'm sorry to say, doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon. we need to focus on, not so much being thin, but being physically, emotionally, and mentally _healthy_. being thin, does not _always_ mean being healthy.Flag

Name: Adrianna Salazar on Feb 1, 2006State: NCCountry: USComments: I am 17 years old, 4 foot 11 and about 100 pounds. I have been called "skinny" for some time but due to my own feelings about not being thin enough, I never agree. Though I have never been bulimic, I did suffer from anorexia for quite some time under the radar. Seeing sites promoting ana and mia, thinspiration, tricks to fool the doctor etc. are luring me back...How am I so sure that they're not right How am I sure that I'm not unhealthy These are frightening thoughts and I only pray I have the strength of will to keep myself from falling back into the mindset of "I can never be thin enough". Some people who view those sights may backslide into old habits, maybe even worse. 7-year olds are busy bent over a toilet throwing up their cookies and milk while the other children are playing on a playground, making their own sites. These must be stopped.Flag
