Dear Chief Minister, The capital Kolkata has been preparing to host the event 'La Tomatina' in the Water Park on October 16, where people are invited to hurl and throw tomatoes at each other. Dear ma'am, Spain can afford it, India cannot. Its a Royal wastage of food !!.. Which could actually be used to feed those 5.6 million children who die of malnutrition every year. In a nation like ours where millions go hungry every night, wasting food in such a manner for the fun of few rich youngsters who could shell out 1000 Rs for a pass is not justified. We have been taught never to waste food. The organizers are comparing this festival with Holi and Diwali! What they fail to understand is that in Holi and Diwali, people who make the crackers and colours, benefit from us buying them. But these tomatoes would not have gone to waste in our country had they not organized such a festival. In Spain, such a festival can be organized because they use over-ripe tomatoes which otherwise would have gone to waste. But that certainly isn’t the case in Kolkata. This is shameful. Delhi cancelled it, so did Bangalore....Now it is time for Kolkata to BOYCOTT this wastage of food! Regards, Ratnesh Malviya & the Undersigned
