Residents within the city limits of Duvall, Washington are concerned about the discharge of illegal fireworks. Washington state law states "if it has a stick or fins and it goes up or if it blows up, it is illegal in Washington State". Out of 36 cities in King County, 22 cities ban residential fireworks altogether, including Carnation, Woodinville and Redmond to protect public safety. During the July 4 2013 holiday, some Duvall residents posted concerns on facebook about the discharge of illegal fireworks between permitted hours of 9am and 11pm and the discharge of any fireworks before and following July 4. Some residents also post that some people using fireworks do not clean up fireworks debris. This petition asks for a ban altogether since some people who wish to use fireworks are not following the state law and/or the Duvall city ordinance and law enforcement may be too burdensome for local police.
