The Ballymun estate in Dublin, Ireland was built in the late 1960\'s
in response to Dublin\'s housing crisis. The estate included 7 High rise
tower blocks containing 90 flats on 15 floors.
In the aftermath of the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising the
towers were named in honour of the 7 signatories of the 1916
proclamation of Independance, Pearse, Connolly, Ceannt,Clarke,
MacDonagh, McDermott and Plunkett.
Now the Towers are being demolished by Ballymun Regeneration Limited
and the residents moved to new houses in Ballymun. But B.R.L have no
plan to retain the 7 Names in the new Ballymun estate. Our aim is to
ensure the names of the seven heroes,
who fought for Irish freedom, are remembered in the new ballymun by
insisting that B.R.L either, erect a monument commemorating the
7 signatories or name the new streets being built after them.
