Ballarat Base Hospital has a fantastic library space, open to students on weekdays, during office hours. This is a well lit, heated facility that would be utilised by many of the students after hours and on weekends if it was made available. From our research whilst in Ballarat, we note that there are limited library facilities around Ballarat city that are open on weekends, none of which appear to be open after 1pm on Saturdays and not open at all on Sundays. We also note that the Geelong and Warrnambool clinical schools offer library access out of business hours for their students. Whilst we acknowledge that there are Deakin tute rooms available for use as a work space after hospital work hours, they are not always 'quiet' work spaces. Communication with the librarians highlighted that the library is equipped with security cameras and is available to some members of the medical staff, out of standard office hours. The issue of library access was raised by students in years previous and some of us feel strongly enough about it to request your ongoing endeavors to make the library accessible out of hours for Deakin students.
