Name: Andy Barlow on Aug 23, 2007Comments: In principle, the arguement for not allowing 3pm kick-offs on a Saturday to be screened live on British television is technically a fair one - i.e. fans of lower league clubs could be tempted to stay at home on a cold, snowy, December day and watch Man Utd vs Liverpool rather than going to see their own local team instead (not that any of the big games ever take place at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon anyway although let's get not started on that subject now!!). However, in total contradiction of this, the FAPL does allow live games to be screened at 12:45pm on a Saturday (which usually finish at around 2:50pm in most cases) and also at 5:15pm (i.e. roughly 20 mins after most 3pm kick-offs finish). Therefore, how is your lower league fan who wants to watch both his own team at 3pm as well as, say, Man Utd vs Liverpool at 12:45pm and, say, Arsenal vs Chelsea at 5:15pm supposed to do this Quite simply, it's not physically possible!! Many people will argue that if someone would prefer to stay at home and watch the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea etc... on TV instead of going to see their own local team then they mustn't be a proper fan. However, what you must remember is that the annual subscription to the likes of Sky, Virgin, Sentanta etc... is probably more expensive than most lower league club's season tickets. Anyway, my position on this matter is not in doubt. If the FAPL were to win their high court battle and ban publicans from screening live Premier League games on a Saturday at 3pm then thousands if not millions of fans would be left frustrated and football as a whole would probably lose out in the long term. Surely the FAPL should capitalise on this demand and push for live games to be screened at 3pm on a Saturday. Put it this way, they would certainly earn themselves millions of pounds in extra TV revenue anyway!! Ps. If anyone knows of a website(s) where you can find out what games are being screened live on a Saturday at 3pm (or any day/time for that matter) then please could you post a message. I have found www.supersport.gr but unfortunately it's all in Greek. The other website I used to use was www.canalplus.no although not many pubs round our way have Norweigan nowadays.Flag

Are stadiums are already turning into a corporate playground, the brittish pub is the 1 place where we can feel at home and fit in without sharing the place with "plastic" fans.Flag

Why bother going to watch your local team You could get wet or cold, oooh the horror!!! Why not simply sit in a pub all afternoon in your replica shirt swearing at professional footballers. These people aren't fans they're sheep.Flag

I cant afford to pay Setanta too so Im about to cancel all my sports subscriptions. Now I cant even watch it down the pub Wake up Premiership, youve bitten the hand that feeds you too often. While you chase worldwide domination your in serious danger of losingthe grass roots support in your own back yard. ShamefullFlag
