Comments: i don't think lisa should be allowed to subject her baby to a prison life , no child should do it and if she , killed this childs dad , who are we to say she may not try it with her own child , lisa needs serious help and bringing her baby to jail with her is not helping lisa it is only subjecting her daughter to a way of life she don't need

Comments: In certain circumstances, I feel for a woman who feels the need to commit such heinous crimes to protect themselves and their loved ones. However, with a history of criminal activity, I highly doubt she had her baby's best interest in mind. I think this baby should DEFINATELY be taken from her mother. She's obviously not fit to be raising any child. If she can't clean up her act long enough to be a proper role model to her children, she needs more help then people realize.

Comments: Prison if no home for a child, she shoulda thought about that before she did what she did...Who cares what her rights are...her rights should be thrown out the window as soon as she commits the crime...Prison is not a home for a child no matter what the situation...

Comments: The Following Article from The Vancouver Sun News Paper dated Friday Febuary 8 2008 the thing about is this women is serving a four year tem for Manslaughter for Killing her husband. The Ministry For Children and Families accused me of being mentally handicapped what they meant was mentally chanllenged. There was no specific information such as doccumented proof from a pyschologist back up what they were saying. I was having a hard time taking care of my child I was in an abusive relationship and I went to the MCF to get assistance to get out of it. Instead of getting that assitance my child was apprehended from me. Further More the MCF said due to the fact I was in an abusive relationship based on that the menatal problems which I suffered would impair my ability to parent a child appropriately. Then I found this article and My situation is like hers except I dont have a criminal record and I did not kill my husband or I am not serving a 4 year term in prison for manslaughter I have no problems with drug addictions at one time in my life I smoked pot but not ever abused drugs and alcol I dont just go saying shit I have documents to back up what I am saying. I was told the olny thing I could do was give up custody of my children becuase I could just never be able to take care of my self and it was the only thing that I could do and that I needed to do it in my childrens best interest when all I needed was some asistance and now there is this mother in prison who is getting that asistance which I have been denied and is able to raise her child in prison it is all just to difficult to swallow! I really thought there was nothing further I could do and since this artilce given my expierience with the MCF I am of course pursing further legal action, I would be really surprised if parents involved with the MCF dont say anythng or those who have had a simular expeirince like I did, you know even though I lost in court I am not walking away quietly! Parents get accused of being mentally challenged or inapable of parenting sign this petition and make this a class action suit if there is one I would like to be involved make this a public issue of interest sign this petition today you have my total support come one and take a stand! Baby Jordyn will serve time with her mother, Lisa Whitford, in a federal prison. BABY STAYS WITH JAILED MOMCONVICTED OF KILLING HER HUSBAND, WOMAN BECOMES THE FIRST IN B. C. TO KEEP HER CHILD IN FEDERAL PRISONBY LORI CULBERT and GERRY BELLETT VANCOUVER SUN She was abused and abandoned as a child, raped and left for dead in the woods as a teen, and lost custody of her children as an adult struggling with violence and a drug addiction. So at age 33, when Lisa Whitford found herself pregnant in jail, awaiting a murder trial, she scared herself straight — weaning herself off illegal and prescription drugs to stay clean. She delivered a healthy baby girl last March and has successfully raised the infant in a provincial remand centre. And now — with the help of a University of B. C. law professor and two caring lawyers — she will become the first woman in B. C. to keep her baby in a federal prison. Whitford, who will serve a four- year sentence for manslaughter at Fraser Valley Institution, will be the first B. C. inmate accepted into a little- used federal program that will allow her to raise 11- month- old Jordyn in a condominium on prison grounds. “ It’s just been an incredible struggle to keep that child with her and give this woman one last chance at her life,” her lawyer, Bruce Kaun, said Thursday. “ She’s doing really well... She’s very clean right now, and very articulate and very focused on raising the child.” Whitford, who was sentenced on Wednesday, will be moved soon to Fraser Valley Institution, where she and Jordyn will live in a private unit with its own kitchen and a park nearby, but will still be surrounded by fences and monitored by guards. “ It’s as homey as you can get in a prison . . . . They have cooking facilities, they have to learn to budget and order healthy food for the children and themselves,” Kaun said. While the mother and child will not be among the general prison population, other inmates may get an opportunity to see or interact with the child. “ It’s not an argument that we should send some more kids to prison, but it does have an amazing impact on the atmosphere in prison. Playing with a child or a baby brings out the best in people, really,” said UBC law professor Michael Jackson, an expert in Canadian prisons and, in particular, female inmates. Life has been difficult for Whitford, right from her birth in 1972 to her arrest in 2006 for shooting her common- law husband, Jordyn’s father, Anthony Ryan Cartledge, 49, at their rural Prince George home. This shit is totally unbeliveable I seriously thought I would never be able to get my case reviewed like words cat express what I am feeling rigt now except it appauls me and it really is hard to swollow I am sure there are other parents who are upset about this to and I am not surprised this happened. Comments: Does this really surprise anyone. We see total disregard for the childs right to grow up in a loving and healthy environment . According to many of the articles I have read on a child's developement , they need to be where they can interact with other children and adults in order to develop the mental and social skills needed to grow and become a part of our society. This is unbelivable...we choose carefully our babysitters and screen our child care workers and yet the government in there wisdom has decided ..this woman (convictrd of murder) and other inmates ( convicted of ) may have a part in the formation of this childs life..Hope the child has a guardian angel .
