Most visitors to US are not English speaking and hence they will have enormous difficulty explaining to INS officers, the reasons for their stay.Flag

Name: Shujen McLendon on Apr 18, 2002Comments: My father died one and half years ago. Since then, my mom has been living with us with B-2 visa and in good standing. The change of this rules created many family problems for us. It affects not only the life between my mom and me, but my children as my mom takes care of them while both my husband and me work from Monday to Friday. I'd like to ask the reconsideration of this rule change. Thank you very much.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 18, 2002Comments: It is very expensive to come to this country. To just visit for 30 days would be almost lost of money. It takes almost 36 hrs. to get here, jet lack and so on. Normally, parents come to their children so they can spend some quality time and enjoy with the family, which has been aparted for many years. To spend only three/lest then four weeks with your grand children are not be enough since sometime you haven't seen them from years. And of course, visit at least few places while you are here !! If this rule is due to Sept. 11, I think a terorist comes for a day or a month or six month, he/she is only seeking to enter this country. Once, he/she is here. He doesn't care, if he is legal or not !!! I would totally disagree, if this would be implemented.Flag

This 30 day visa in fact a biggest hurdle for the family reunion or other family realted ocassion. So please be considerate to provide the long term visa to the family members who wants to visit and spend some time with other members of the family who migrated to USA.Flag

And if the law permits only 1 month, it is going to be financially tough for me to bring them every other month here. This is my take on it.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 18, 2002Comments: The proposed amendment to the visitor visa would tremendously affect our parents, who spend so much time and money so they can spend some quality time with us. The INS should use better screening procedures and not target everyone indiscriminately. Also, under the proposed amendment, reasons for filing for an extension will not be applicable in most cases (especially when the trips are undertaken purely to visit family and friends who are spread out around the country) and the fact that processing of I-539 takes between 120-180 days (VSC) doesn't make much sense. INS is going to be overwhelmed with paper work.Flag
