The Arizona Justice Project (at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, Arizona State University) is working to get state legislation passed that would provide financial compensation and other assistance to innocent people who have been imprisoned for crimes they did not commit. Upon their release, the state does nothing to try to undo the damage it has done to these people, some of whom have been imprisoned for decades. If they are lucky enough to have the error discovered and be exonerated, they have the enormous challenge of trying to repair their lives. Twenty-five other states have laws that provide financial compensation to help these innocents pick themselves up and resume their lives. Arizona is NOT one of them. If you agree that it is time for us to right this fundamental wrong, please add your name to this petition. By signing this petition you are showing your agreement that the Arizona Legislature should pass a law of some kind to address this problem. Thank you for your support!
