To the Hon. Governor Blanco, DHH Secretary Cerise, and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners:

We, the undersigned citizens, responders, and direct care providers in Louisiana, and friends around the country and world, hereby petition you to immediately allow Acupuncturists Without Borders and its out-of-state licensed acupuncturists to continue to provide free acupuncture trauma relief treatments within the State of Louisiana. It is undeniable that there is a need for acupuncture relief services that far exceeds the current capacity of Louisiana licensed individuals to meet the demand. Hundreds of thousands continue to suffer great levels of stress in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Acupuncturists Without Borders has provided over 4000 free treatments to date. To the best of our knowledge, Acupuncturists Without Borders’ volunteers are the only ones providing free acupuncture trauma relief treatments in New Orleans and surrounding areas. We desperately need this relief. We ask and trust that you, our government officials, will act quickly to restore permission to allow Acupuncturists Without Borders and its out-of-state licensed acupuncturists to provide free acupuncture trauma relief treatments within the State of Louisiana.

Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB)is devoted to bringing compassionate and effective relief to underserved communities affected by natural disaster, war, and conflict around the world. Utilizing community acupuncture, and working through local alliances, our initial presence in an area is devoted to overcoming the immediate effects of trauma. In some cases where the situation is not acute, but the need is great, we will develop longer term training programs for local professionals in basic acupuncture.
