Comments: Something needs to be done to calm this speed zone. There's a painted bicycle with flowers on it at the corner of Avenue and Cortleigh (or Lytton) that I'm guessing isn't there for decorative puposes. It's a busy road & there are children walking it everyday. Do we need another accident to have this safety matter updated thanks

Comments: We have had to find a less direct route to school in order to avoid being on Avenue for as long. Not only do the cars drive at an unacceptable speed the stop light with a crossing guard at St. Clements is often run.

Comments: As I'm writing this there are emergency vehicles treating a cyclist who has just been hit on Avenue Road at Hillhurst. I walk the kids to school, and home for lunch, everyday, and it is only due to my constant vigilence that we have not been hit by a car. Crossing Avenue Road at Briar Hill is particularly difficult, with cars trying to cross Avenue, or making left turns, oblivious to pedestrians, many of whom are young children.

Comments: I am terrified when I walk my children to school on Avenue Road. It feels as if we are walking on a highway. I am constantly worried that a car is going to lose control or smash into another one and land on the sidewalk. This is one of the most dangerous areas I have encountered in the city and I strongly believe it requires immediate attention. Electronic speed displays and cement barriers sound like excellent ideas! Please do not delay!

Comments: Avenue Rd b/w Eglinton & Lawrence is home to 4 schools, a park and a daycare and the safety situtation is dismal with little police enforcement for speeding & traffic violations, narrow sidewalks very low down to the road & significant curvature in the road leading to a history of accidents. Something needs to be done.

Comments: I support this petition. Avenue road is very busy and there is a lot of children who need to access it for school. I support a radar presence or any other safety measure.

Comments: To walk our children to Allenby school on a daily basis - often 6 times day, it is a frightening experience. Given the speed excessive speed of the cars and the curve in the road, it is an incredibly dangerous situation. We would also be interested in having safety crash railings installed along these sections of the road. My children witnessed the death of a cyclist within the last 8 months along this very strip. It is only a matter of time before another death occurs. Something must be done to prevent it!

Comments: I agree strongly with this petition. While my daughter is in Grade 5 and should be able to walk to school by herself, I fear for her saftey, not from strangers but due to the traffic. I have called in the past and complained about a lack of police presence and was told that radar was done regularly, yet I walked the route everyday and saw it once or twice per year, yet they find a way to do radar on Bayview by Toronto French school regularly in an area where pedestrian traffic is almost non-existent. I had also called the city about whether a 'Community Safety Zone, Fines Increased' program like you see in other areas of the city could be implemented as a deterrent to speed, but was told new initiatives of this program were not being done any longer. I fully support more barriers, and feel especially vulnerable on the curve on the east side just south of Hillhurst. I think we should also look at 'rough' patches on Avenue Road, like you see on some highway off ramps, to remind drivers to slow down. Unless something is done, I truly believe it is only a matter of time until there is a very serious accident. The whole stretch of road between Lawrence and Eglinton needs re-planning in light of the fact that students from 6 schools (Allenby, John Ross, Glenview, Lawrence Park, Marshall McLuhan and Havergal) regularly walk this route. Drastic changes like those done on Yonge Blvd or Oriole Parkway should be considered for this residential stretch of Avenue. One final point - it was disappointing that despite the road being re-done two years ago, the replacement curbs in the Allenby area are still substandard and no safety improvements, such as barriers, were made at that time.

Comments: the orange lights flashing near the school zone to indicate cars should travel at 40 km/hr is largely ignored and cars continue to speed along the stretch from roselawn to glencarin. I would very much like to see police presence and barriers to protect our children.

Comments: Reduced speed limit should be along a larger stretch of Avenue Road. A designated flashing school zone of signs & lights should be installed between Lawrence Ave. and Eglinton Ave on Avenue Road.
