Under the leadership of psychologist Juanita Williams, the first women’s studies courses at USF were offered in the 1972-1973 academic year. Founding faculty were historian Judith Ochshorn, social worker Alice Nelson and philosopher Marilyn Myerson. The USF Department of Women’s Studies is now an interdisciplinary department administered within the university’s College of Arts and Sciences and offers baccalaureate and master’s degrees as well as several certificate programs. An advisory board, composed of community activists and scholars, meets regularly to provide advice and perspective.
