Name: Mary Ann Fiedler on Jul 8, 2007Comments: Autism is a "medical" disorder, not an "educational" disorder. Medical coverage for autism treatment and therapy for ABA, AVB, SCERTS, PVT, Floor Time, Discrete Trial Training, Natural Environment Teaching, Behavior Modification, Behavior Shaping, Intensive 1:1 from a Behavior Therapist (b.t.), in-home intensive AVB and ABA, speech therapy, Sensory and occupational therapy, ETC. should be the responsibility of Insurance companies nation-wide. These treatment and therapy options are the same as treatment and therapy provided to cancer patients. The treatment options listed above are scientifically proven, peer-reviewed interventions that therapize autistic children and adults. Help make it available to all! special_needs_families@charter.net or www.no4way.orgFlag

Name: Haleh Niazmand on Jul 8, 2007Comments: My child was placed on a wait list (called referral list since the waitlist is illegal) for an intensive program for over a year. Once placed, since he has already lost a year of his learning opportunity in an intensive program, his school has placed him on an accelerated program to make up for the one-year delay. However, the school has a criterion that my child has to meet 80% of the goals set for him in this accelerated program in order to stay in their program, which is assessed every 90 days. As a single working parent of an autistic child, I already live under enormous stress and adding the additional stress of my child's school placement is an unnecessary and somewhat cruel burden. The school for my child is a private school that is co-contracted by the regional center and school district. In other words the school is being paid by the taxpayer, but there is no adequate oversight from public agencies that contract them, in order to ensure their policies does not discriminate based on race, age, economic status and above all that there are no favoritism in placing or dismissing children.Flag

Name: Michelle Rodriguez on Jul 8, 2007Comments: My son has a form of autism. When he was first diagnosed I thought he'd live with us forever. After several years of 1 on 1 therapy he has made so much progress I'm sure he will be have a job and live on his own. I'm scared to think what would have happened if he was never given all of these opportunities.Flag

Name: Terrie Baker on Jul 9, 2007Comments: I have a son with ASD and we are now in the process of having our daughter assessed for ASD also. Every child with ASD needs help now! We are tired of having to fight our Regional Centers/School Districts to help our children. We lose precious time to help our children and the ones that really lose out is the children themselves. It is never to late to help our ASD children it is just the earlier the better. Please help these children now!Flag
