Name: F. Raine on Dec 9, 2011Comments: My sister and I were both born at home without a midwife, and luckily without complications. I chose to give birth to my son at home where I could feel completely safe and relaxed. I can't think of anything worse than going through such a personal, initimate, & potentially difficult experience in a hospital, surrounded by strangers and illness. Luckily I was able to have an amazing, caring and capable midwife assist me with my son's birth. This should be an option for all healthy mothers.Flag

Pedlar on Dec 9, 2011Comments: All mothers, particularly those who are healthy and at low risk of borth complications, should have the choice to give birth wherever they feel most comfortable. For many women this is at home. The attendance of a midwife at the birth greatly improves the chances of the birth proceeding safely for both mother and child.Flag

Name: Claire Pavailler on Apr 24, 2012Comments: I feel incredibly strongly that women should be provided with a choice about how they choose to bring their baby into the world. The WHO suggests that this should be every woman's right. I live in Brisbane (not in a rural location in the middle of nowhere)...and yet....there is ONE public hospital that offers a natural birthing clinic - the Royal Women's Hospital. And to get in there, it's luck of the draw, because SO MANY women have their name on the list!! How is it possible that every single public hospital in a a large city does not have the option to birth in a supportive, natural, non-interventional way, and especially, the option to birth in water??? It absolutely shocked me to discover that. I also firmly wish that I could have a homebirth, and that that should be an accessible option for ALL women...yet this will cost me no less than $5000! With hardly any (if any?) assistance from medicare, this is not really an option for us. How dare it have become a matter of doctors wanting money, rather than women being allowed a choice. And that's exactly what it comes down to.Flag
