Name: Clinton Golden on Nov 11, 2002State: ILCountry: USComments: I don't have the financial resources to be a member at the Augusta National Golf Club and even if I did the fact I'm Jewish may keep me from being a member. And that's O.K. As long as people are not espousing hate against others they have a right to exclusively associate with people they want to without being imposed upon by others.Flag

Name: Terrence Wittman on Nov 12, 2002State: ILCountry: USComments: It concerns me greatly that any time a man today wants to be the member of any organization, it is being attacked. The attack, and that is exactly what this is, is no different than the attack on the Boy Scouts of America. These people will stop at nothing to bring down any institution that they believe is "incorrect". Who gave them the right in this, A "FREE" Country, to determine what is correct and incorrect. Stick to your guns! You are being attacked by special interest groups. And if member CEO's won't stand with the club, let them go too. I wish you well, because I believe your stand will have far reaching consequences for other organizations around the country. God Bless.Flag

I also believe thay should not bend to pressure of any kind to change how members are selected. Tell me what female organization doesn't allow men as members and I will apply for membership!Flag

Name: Andrew Silman on Nov 14, 2002State: MSCountry: USComments: I wholeheartedly support the Augusta National's right to free association, a right we Americans should cherish as much as we cherish the right to free speech and a free press. The push to coerce the Augusta National (a private club) into changing its membership policy is entirely hypocritical in that it is being driven by an organization that, according to its name at least, excludes men. It is no more "morally wrong" to exclude women from membership in the Augusta National than for "NOW" to exclude men solely on the basis of gender. Further, there are other membership "standards" that just as surely exclude most men as well as most women. The right to free association must not be relinquished without a noble fight. In this regard Hootie Johnson and the members of Augusta National must hold their ground. It's not a male-female issue; it's a freedom issue.Flag

All of the men of this generation, and men yet unborn are counting on you to uphold your rights as a private organization in the United States!! Mr. Johnson's press conference the other day was most appropriate, and most impressive. And as far as those member who have shown signs of dissent, you know what needs to be done. I'll pack their bags if you'd like. Respectfully...Rob RIley, Jr./St. Louis, MOFlag

Name: Calvin Ward on Nov 21, 2002State:Country: USComments: I just wanted to make a few comments. First, I think that Augusta National should remain a private golf club and should be able to choose it own members as it has in the past. It was Citadel, Virginia Military Institute, the female that wanted to play football with the men. I'm sure there are a few others. The government nor the state is not paying for this right Maybe men just want to enjoy the male bonding that they have in the past, and once a female comes in, then things have to change, next thing you know, they will be trying to file some type of lawsuit because of some comment that they overheard. I really hope Mr. Hootie Johnson does not fold on this one. Please hold your ground, stand firm on your decision. If no one has complained about it in the past, then why now, in order for Ms. Burk to make a name for herself. The only reason most of the people are trying to get on Ms Burk side, is because they don't want women on their bad side, or are afraid of what the public might think. If she wants members that bad, why don't they start an all female golf club. DO NOT GIVE IN! HOLD YOUR GROUND! ThanksFlag

Name: Stan Kieca on Dec 11, 2002State: ILCountry: USComments: I can't afford many private clubs so I must be in the discriminated group somewhere. I hope the day never comes where we must give up the right to enjoy these freedoms. I joined the cub scouts because it was only "boys", and I go out with the "guys" now and then and sometimes I even enjoy going to the "mens" room. I suppose if I look at this with my feminine side, I may find evidence of this golf club of "men only" where it has indeed stunted the spiritual and independent growth of so many women golfers. It may have even caused utter failure for some in the business world because they could not fratinize with the Augusta members. Oh please! somebody stop me! Gentleman, do not walk away with your clubs between your legs and I say to the supposed 25% of the members there who feel women should be allowed, to go start their own club or just go! May you find the strength to put up with this nonsense and keep the tradition! Sincerely, S. KiecaFlag
