There has been a lot of media attention on mass shootings, shooting sprees, and murder suicides. Every time a new killer appears in the news, the media runs with it. They claw at every bit of information they can get about the shooters. They occasionally mention the names of victims, police officers, and other rescue workers involved. It seems the media enjoys making celebrities of people who are better left completely unnamed and forgotten. So this petition is meant to ask them to stop this. Stop giving future would be killers yet another reason to kill. Stop over reporting on the killer's life and times. Instead, tell us about the victims. What kind of people they were, how loved they were by family and friends, and about their lives. Tell us about the heroes that put a stop to the shooter's rampages. Tell us about the rescue workers that saved lives. Those are the people who's names deserve to be in print and online. Those are the names I want to know, so that I can honor their actions. I do not care about the killers, their life story, or what will become of them if they happen to not do the world a favor and kill themselves.
