Keep the athletics track at Churchill Playing Fields

Saddleworths only open athletics track is under imminent threat of extinction. There are no plans to retain it during the revamp of the rest of the playing fields. This will essentially leave just football & rugby. This is scandalous, there is no other experience like running on a track, painting lines on grass is just not comparable. Yes we are all aware of the flooding issues but let's not be duped into thinking by opposing this we endanger all of the big plan. It is not good enough to find out at this stage, having been drip fed information which has left out the essential core the removal of the track. We now know there is urgent need to be proactive so please consider this issue & if you feel that Saddleworth should keep this valuable resource help us to save it. If it goes, it is likely never to be replaced.

I trained at Churchill running track at lunchtimes when I attended Saddleworth school in the 70s. At that time there wasn't an athletic club track except for Westwood Park in Chadderton but that is two bus rides away when studying time is valuable. Children today need the opportunities we took forgranted. Running is more popular than ever; the Olympics have awakened more young dreams; lets keep this track and build on them.
