The petition
I am British and have been in a relationship with an asylum seeker in the UK for several years. We have a young child who loves his father and me dearly. We are a loving family and are in a legitimate relationship. In future we would like to add to our family and have more children.
Me and my partner met by chance on an ordinary night out, dated for a while, and have been together ever since. It was not arranged nor was there any deception involved in how our relationship developed. It developed out of love and we are deeply committed to each other.
I am an ordinary citizen who happened to fall in love with someone in unfortunate circumstances, but should we suffer forever because of this? We only have each other, me, my partner, and our son. The Home Office does not allow people like me and my partner to even have the decency to be married and have a normal family life. We are still to this day waiting to hear about how his case is pending and have asked for a case worker to investigate our relationship so that they can determine that it is in fact genuine.
If my partner was deported this would ultimately kill me and my son both mentally and physically. Life would cease to exist for us if he is snatched from our lives. My son deserves to have his father and I deserve to have my partner and hopefully "a husband". It is not safe for him to return to his country and he would remain in hiding forever if he had to so we can stay together as a family... He is a good man and father. It saddens me when I hear about asylum seekers who commit horrible crimes, freed from prison, and are granted amnesty when we are still struggling. We are asking for the Home Office to change its policy and assign case workers to determine genuine relationships of ordinary British Citizens and their asylum seeking partners, especially those who have children, allowing amnesty and the right to marriage and to build a normal family life. We are asking for amnesty so that we can live as a normal family and my partner can finally have the pride of knowing he can support his family in every way possible without having to live in fear.
