Improve Communication between IIE Denver Office and ASU International Fulbright Students

Arizona State University International Fulbright Students have been experiencing difficulties in communicating with Denver Regional IIE Office. Despite the amiability and dedication of Denver IIE Office staff, we have come across the following shortfalls: Expected responses from the Office are often delayed so that sometimes it creates stalemate in planning and further actions; Fulbrighters have to make several inquiries before they receive a response from the Office. Sometimes, the response is outdated or even unrelated to the issue of the inquiry; IIE Denver Office phones are seldom answered by someone other than answering machine; With each inquiry, Fulbrighters have to explain the nature of the inquiry anew, meaning that the track of their story has not been followed; In addition to the rules posted on the IIE website, complementary rules are created for each case, so the Fulbrighters do not know which answer to expect with each inquiry; There are cases when the Fulbrighters were requested to resend their documents because those they had sent before were lost. Therefore, we propose: To reduce the workload of Denver IIE Office staff to ensure that they are able to keep track of the Fulbrighters’ cases, To create more general rules for all Fulbrighters or to develop the rules for each country to make IIE work more transparent and predictable for Fulbright applicants and current students; To arrange more formal and informal meetings where ASU Fulbrighters could personally communicate with their Officers; To improve the communication between Fulbright country offices and Denver Regional IIE Office so that the incoming Fulbrighters know about ASU Fulbright International Student Association.
