We, the undersigned, believe that the position of Associate Director at the Office of LGBT Equity is necessary and vital to LGBT students and campus community. The refusal by the Provost to permanently instate this position as promised is a withdrawal of support from LGBT faculty, staff and students and is a detriment to the entire campus community. We demand that the Provost make the position of Associate Director of LGBT Equity a permanent full-time position.
The Pride Alliance\'s mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and allied students within the University of Maryland at College Park community and to promote an accepting and supportive campus environment for persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities, through outreach, education, and work with other student organizations.
We serve as a visible point of organization and contact for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and allied communities both on- and off-campus. This includes providing social, cultural, educational, and volunteer/activist opportunities for interested resources for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and allied students.
