Name: Gavin Funabiki on Feb 24, 2007Comments: If AsianWeek had any credibility, this article destroyed it. I don't want to go to or buy anything advertised in or sponsored by AsianWeek until the demands above are met and there's some new staff with a firmer handle on news media. If AsianWeek was trying to show that parts of the Asian American community have negative views about African Americans, they did it in the worst possible way.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Feb 24, 2007Comments: My husband and I have maintained our subscription to Asian Week for over 20 years. A few months ago(), when we read Mr. Eng's writing for the first time, we were shocked and dismayed by his hate and hostility. We were even more shocked by the editor's decision to pay him to have a public forum. While we believe that Asian Week has the responsibility to present a variety of Asian American experiences and perspectives, clearly, the current editor prioritizes publicity (and hence the greater sale and advertisement) over integrity. For some time now, we have been considering the possibility of terminating our subscription in protest. With the most recent publication of "Why I hate Blacks," Asian Week has crossed the line. If the publisher and the editor do not provide a meaningful public apology, terminate Mr. Eng's column, and demonstrate changes in the company's code of ethics, my husband and I will end our subscription and urge all of our subscriber-friends and family to do the same.Flag

Name: Mary Anne Foo on Feb 24, 2007Comments: I just got done meeting with Mr. Harry Belafonte who said that the African American community will stand up for the Asian American community and how we all need to work together. The column by Kenneth Eng is truly an embarrassment and outrage. I cannot believe that Asian Week would print such garbage.Flag

Name: Rebecca Klassen on Feb 24, 2007Comments: While Kenneth Eng is entitled to his (morally reprehensible) opinions, he should not be entitled to enjoin Asian Americans in the oppression of others, on AsianWeek's dime. Given the quality of his writing, you would think that it would be more the type to grace handscrawled, photocopied flyers stapled on telephone poles. Unless, of course, AsianWeek has a secret fascist agenda that we were not aware of.Flag

It shows that we have much work to do within our own community. AsianWeek should be held accountable for supporting these disgusting views.Flag

Name: Tommy Woon on Feb 24, 2007Comments: By allowing Kenneth Eng to have a medium for his bigoted rants towards fellow Americans, Asian week has undermined itself as a leading voice for Asian Americans. Since Kenneth Eng first began spewing his vile, I began to wonder why Asian Week was pandering to his racism. Has Asian week become so desperate to sell newspapers that it is willing to accommodate Eng's demagoguery He keeps crossing the line and Asian Week keeps publishing his trash. Shame on you. Asian Week must make stop all this or I will terminate a subscription that I've had for 25 years.Flag

I was also horrified by the possibility of someone reading his words and taking them to heart. I'm disappointed. And sad.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Feb 25, 2007Comments: I can understand Mr.Eng's frustration but please be careful as to the words you speak. Please understand that the notion black americans are weak-willed is not true. Also understand that there was a point in time when Chinese-Americans were ecvluded from America and that is called the Chinese Exclusion Act. Also may I suggest that Mr. Eng go read the Raping of Nanking by Iris Chang and get a history check.Flag

Name: Marisa Louie on Feb 25, 2007Comments: AsianWeek as we know it now barely resembles what it was when it began - I've had the opportunity to read lots of back issues from the 70s and 80s while doing research at our museum. It used to be a real paper that ran real news, and didn't run outdated wire reports, stories on child rapper/golfers and disgusting drivel like Kenneth Eng's column (did anyone else see the previous column entitled "Why I Hate Asians") I'm ashamed of AsianWeek, and saddened by those who have brought it so low.Flag

Name: Brad C on Feb 25, 2007Comments: That article was an embarrassment to the Asian North American community. I hope in the future AsianWeek not only thinks twice about which articles it obviously blindly prints, but also I hope they fire this non-nonsensical idiot who obviously has no idea how much Blacks have helped the empowerment of colored people altogether.Flag
