We, the undersigned, urge the leadership of the US Government Printing Office to reconsider the requirements made in recent letters (July 20, 2011 and September 23, 2011) to the leadership of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL) regarding its "Guidelines for Managing FDLP Collections in the Southeast Region." As library directors, Documents Librarians, and members of the public, we strongly support the ASERL plan. We feel the ASERL plan complies with the letter and spirit of Title 44 U.S.C. Chapter 19, the statute governing the Federal Depostiory Library Program. Moreover, we feel the ASERL plan supports improved collection management processes, provides greater public access to federal documents, and streamlines work processes used by depository libraries -- a win-win-win situation.
