Name: Ami Shinuchi on Jul 20, 2011Comments: I would like a safer environment to walk in while attending Artwalk in Downtown. I believe Artwalk promotes local businesses and creates a platform for local artists. It has become such a success where its getting way too crowded. So it should be understandable to shut these streets for those couple hours so patrons can walk in peace. Please take peoples lives into consideration. Thank youFlag

Name: Laura Webber on Jul 20, 2011Comments: Even before the accident occurred, I wondered why the streets weren't closed off. I remember Westwood in the 80's and it was nothing compared to how crowded these streets were. This terrible tragedy can't be repeated. Thank you for all the security measures that are already in place. Let's add this one right now.Flag

Name: David Galt on Jul 20, 2011Comments: We should close the streets, but we should also add in protected bike lanes and traffic calming treatments to Main and Spring. Bike lanes are "planned" for these streets in the bike master plan, and implementing them now will reduce the number of injuries and collisions on these streets. I use to work in the Bike/Ped Unit at NYCDOT so I know what I'm talking about.Flag

If we can manage to get to the Artwalk without our cars, imagine everywhere else we can go car-free!!Flag

Name: David Barron on Jul 20, 2011Comments: If the City can close the streets for a Christmas Parade, for an LA Bike Day, Street Fairs, certainly they can do it to promote the Art Walk for all the family to enjoy safely. Such request should not be exclusively afforded to 'Billionaires' or to the politically connected. And yes the City can afford it. City revenues have been at an all-time high since 2006. CAO M. Santana sent repeated letters, since 2005, to 'antonio' advising that his over-spending would put the City in a deficit. He and city council have chosen to ignore his advise. Name: Elizabeth Prokopiak on Jul 20, 2011Comments: As a Downtown Los Angeles resident I am appalled that the city hasn't done more to protect the neighborhood and the thousands of people that attend Art Walk every month. In every other city where an Art Walk is hosted, streets are closed and the city takes the proper precautions. Los Angeles officials need to take some initiative.Flag
