Name: Anonymous on Feb 6, 2007Comments: My family and I have lived in Williamsburg for 7 years. The rents here have skyrocketed, and artists have no security. We make raw lofts livable and produce the art that the city is famous for and then are kicked out, so the landlords can rent the same space to non-artists. We are now, sadly, contemplating moving out of the city to Seattle. If we cannot live AND work here we will have no choice. Seattle, as well as ther cities, attempts to protect artists from these situations through low to middle income housing building exclusively for artists.Flag

Name: Dee on Feb 20, 2007Comments: I am an actress who has lived in three different apartments in the last half of a year. As it grows more and more impossible to find affordable housing, I find myself moving around more and more, just to be able to stay afloat. I find something relatively affordable for a few months, and then have to leave due to circumstances. Mostly because they are sublets, but also because some are just unbearable to live in. Without having a steady reliable homebase, my art has been suffering. I have contemplated leaving New York for the first time in my life, but a stage actress, there is nowhere else to go. This needs to changeFlag

I hope this works as artists are struggling as it is and to have an affordable great working-living space would just make life easier and we'll all have more time to create great artwork instead of working two jobs just to afford a living space... Name: Lynne Foster on Sep 25, 2007Comments: I am also concerned with artists ability to find affordable housing in New York City. Historically emerging artists have been the pioneers in bad neighborhoods and help turned them into thriving places for others,,. As these areas become more and more desirable affordable housing is hard to findFlag
