The petition
Dear Senator,
I am writing this letter on behalf of a group of concerned American citizens. Our group is called Arax Armenian Dance Ensemble and we have been dancing traditional Armenian folk dances for several years now in the Washington metro area. Like most people who are proud to be Americans we also share the same pride for our Christian Armenian heritage. My parents and grandparents came to this country in hopes of finding a better life and to escape the torment they endured in Turkey while trying to just LIVE as Christian Armenians. My grandmother was a genocide survivor; her stories are so horrendous and painful that not a day goes by I don’t think about them. My heart is consumed with so much pain especially since the well-documented genocide committed by Turkey has not been publicly acknowledged!
I understand the Genocide Resolution has come under scrutiny by many Turkish officials and lobbyists who of course are trying to mask the truth of their own history. We as Americans should not rewrite history or change the past. Furthermore we make this world a far worse place when we deny the truth. Our own U.S. Ambassador Henry Morganthau and the press all across the world acknowledged a mass killing and slaughter of my people 90 years ago. The only problem was that the word genocide didn’t exist then. Turkey's brutal and systematic annihilation of 1.5 million Christian Armenian men, women, and children in 1915 was genocide! Even before Hitler planned to annihilate the Jewish people in Germany, he was quoted, “After all, who remembers the Armenians?...” Then we had the Holocaust!
The Turkish government has been denying this truth and literally changing their history by rewriting books in Turkey to TEACH and EMBED these lies into their own people. The only problem is that their lies are infecting
our beautiful United States as well!!! Please find in your heart to do the right thing and vote FOR the resolution. We ridicule the current Iranian president for denying that the Holocaust ever occurred, as we should. The Jewish people finally have comfort and a sense of ease knowing that history has been brought forth. Justice has prevailed!
My husband serves in our U.S. military and is proud of what he does! So am I! He stands up for what is right! We as Americans must do the PATRIOTIC thing and vote for the resolution! Never should we allow another government like Turkey to bully and threaten us into accepting fictions! My father, also a proud American Armenian, has been working on this resolution for the past 28 years! By voting yes, you can help give back some retribution to the Christian American-Armenians.
Turks who are our so-called allies have already boycotted American products, threatened our US troops and sent 70K-80K Armenians out of Turkey because of this resolution! The current Turkish government is just as much to blame for trying to cover up such a scandal as the Young Turks were who started this genocide! I am a huge patriot! But the Turkish lobby has been BUYING this country’s silence!!! I urge you to do the RIGHT THING…to vote for the TRUTH!
I thank you so much for your time and hope that if there is any MORE information you need, you will not hesitate to contact me. We also invite you to come see some of our traditional dancing in the DC area! The history of our genocide is also reflected in some of our beautiful dances.
Thank you again for doing the right thing.
Sincerely,
