We, the undersigned, are Arlington County VA parents and/or residents and understand that Arlington Public Schools will need to identify savings and reductions in the budget for FY 2011. We support Superintendent Dr. Murphy in his outreach to the community through budget forums and want to join in this collaborative effort by communicating our priorities and suggestions. The School Board adopted budget for FY 2010 is $438.6 million. $106.2 million of that is allocated to Departments as outlined on page 210 of the budget. In the 2010 Washington Area Boards of Education (WABE) report, Arlington had the highest percentage of nonschool based positions at 10.6%. We believe that APS has an opportunity to find a significant percentage of the money needed to make-up the projected budget shortfall by focusing first on savings and reductions in Central Office expenditures. We request that APS continue their efforts to deliver a high quality education by using these three criteria in their budget decisions: 1. Consider the impact to the child in the classroom as the primary criterion for all budget decisions. 2. Identify cost savings in the Central Office first. 3. Reallocate resources to programs with a track record of results. (***You do not need to make a donation to ipetition.com for your signature to be counted. Thanks)
