Apple iPhones have left in their iPhone/iPad operating system (iOS) something which throughout the apple support forums is being referred to as a bug. It is more like a horrendous breach of security waiting to happen. Upon deleting a text message or contact this information is simply marked as deleted by the OS, but thus far despite syncing with itunes on numerous occasions this information has remained on my iphone and the same is reported by countless other users. When using spotlight search iOS frequently returns results for matching text in text messages, emails and contacts which have been deleted (in my case at least, approximately a year ago). Furthermore there is software available which is able to extract all of this information from a locked iphone within a matter of minutes including message attachments, i.e. images attached to text messages which have been deleted. Apple have known about this issue for at least a year according to posts on the apple support forum and their suggestions to "Wipe your phone" or "hide those items from spotlight" are not fixes. They are the equivalent of taking off and nuking the site from orbit! Apple, please listen to your customers and fix this bug.
