I was a founding member of the Delta Eta chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta at San Diego State that was re-chartered this past year. In my first months in the chapter I served as Risk Management Chair, then was elected to Vice President of Campus Relations. Outside of my chapter duties I also served as the Alpha Gamma Delta Panhellenic delegate after initiation in February. A few months ago I was also elected to the Greek Life Activities Board as the fundraising chair (I am the only member of Alpha Gamma Delta to have served on both of these councils) Campus involvement is pertinent to a new and constantly growing chapter, so I find it relevant to mention my involvements on various boards and committees in Associated Students as well. A few months ago I was hit with some financial trouble, as I am financially independent and work 2 jobs, 7 days a week, up to 40 hours a week on top of being a full time student who holds these leadership positions. I am not proud of falling behind on my chapter dues, and letting down my chapter, but as of November they were all paid off and I found myself back in good financial standing within my chapter. Unfortunately, Nationals does not think I should remain a member of this chapter and has suspended my membership for a minimum of one calendar year. I have attached the letter I am sending in hopes to appeal this decision, and members of my chapter are signing a separate petition as well as writing letters in my defense. I can assure you all that this change in my membership status is not because I did not fulfill the duties of my leadership roles, or because of any behavioral or standards issues on my end. It is simply because I fell into some financial distress. I would love to prove that being in a chapter is more than just paying dues to headquarters. Being a part of the Panhellenic community has brought me more joy than I could ever imagine and if I have impacted any of you the way you women have impacted me I ask that you would sign this petition in support of appealing this decision to revoke my chapter membership.
