enough of the yankees in toronto. i get really pissed whenever i see a guy wearing a yankees hat in toronto. he's a toronto resident, lived here all his life, yet he likes the yankees. why? people tell me: well, the jays have only been around since 1977, so people born before then would cheer for the closest team: the yankees. but most of the people that i see with yankees stuff are aged 15-25, from toronto. the raptors have only been around since 1995, yet everyone in toronto cheers for the raptors, not the knicks. the rock have only existed since 1999, yet everyone in t.o. cheers for them, not the buffalo bandits. people tell me that it's because the yankees are the most popular clothes line in north america, even though most of the people who wear yankees hats don't know a thing about them. so are they telling me that the new york yankees are like gap, reebok or nike? hell no! they're a sports team, and it's way different. the jays are my favourite team by far, i don't mean to be cynical, but my second favourite team are the red sox, mostly because i hate the yankees. they can spend all the money they want to get the best players in the world. last year, 3 teams were over the limit and had to pay the league: anaheim with $1 million over the limit, boston with $3 million over and the yankees with $26 million over. that's ridiculous. why would people want to wear yankees stuff anyways. it's all black and white. why not wear a real colour? |
