Anti-Political Dynasty Law
Political dynasties continue to dominate the country’s electoral system with almost 70% candidates coming from a political clan. According to the study by the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center (AIMPC), poverty is more prominent on areas under a political dynasty. The same study also shows that legislators belonging to a political dynasty are wealthier than those who are not. This provision was ratified on Feb.2, 1897 but no law has been passed to implement it, mainly because the legislators themselves are members of a political clan. That is why we petition for the ratification of the anti-political dynasty bill through the people’s initiative provided in RA 6735 or The Initiative or Referendum Act. This states that a proposed bill or law can be enacted by the sovereign power of the people. We should all initiate the enactment of this law, because we believe that voting wisely isn’t enough.
