The purpose of college is to further one's education to reach a career goal. It is understandable that students in community college need to take general education courses for requirments to transfer to to a CSU or UC schools. If a student already knows what they want to major in then some general education classes are not essential to his or her goal. In the situatuion of wanting to major in nursing or culinary arts, it seems unneccessary to be taking a required pre requisite such as history. Students are taking college seriously and it is becoming more expensive each year so we need to devote time and money on the main courses that cover the studies of his or her major. This is a petition to change the general education courses requirments for certain majors.
