Comments: This shelter needs to be looked into-a friend of mine pulled two shar peis from there that were so sick one died shortly thereafter. Also, the rescue alliance that works w/the shelter needs to be looked into as I have had dealings with them in the past and they are less than ethical.

Comments: You government officials have a willing, dedicated, qualified, volunteer army here willing to apply humane, informed and intelligent standards to a shameful problem in your community. Do not waste this resource, it is gold. Please exhibit the humanity necessary for a civilized and compassionate society by allowing these rescues in to fix a draconian situation.

Comments: I adopted one dog and 8 cats from this shelter. Two of the cats were FeLV+ and two developed serious URIs right after adoption (one was sneezing as I adopted him). I kept and treated all (one FeLV+ died 3 months after adoption) since I knew a return was an instant death sentence. I have been appalled that distemper shots are only given as an animal leaves when adopted. An outbreak could wipe out the shelter as has happened elsewhere. One cat did not even get the shot because they thought she was pregnant which was not true. I would very much like to see conditions improved at this shelter and programs instituted to help increase adoptions.

Comments: It's about time. I have a cat from that shelter and he is a joy! I'm sure many killed along with dogs would make GREAT pets and aren't even given the chance.

Comments: I run a New Jersey rescue group, Rawhide Rescue. On many occasions we've been made aware of animals needing rescuing from the Burlington shelter, but since time and time again we arrive only to find the animal in question already having put down, sometimes as recently as the same morning, we've stopped trying to help. It's simply too frustrating and upsetting to have volunteers met by a laughing employee stating that "No, that animal is not availabe, we just put it down". We'd be more than willing to help (we placed 247 dogs and 70 cats in 2003) but need some kind of commitment from the shelter that our trips are not in vain. Something MUST be done!

Comments: ALL animals deserve respect, especially if they in a shelter, as this is their last stop to death and final chance for freedom.
